Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils are looking for a Communities Officer with a Community Safety specialism to join our team on a full-time, permanent basis. The successful candidate will earn a competitive salary of £34,834 - £41,418 per annum (pro rata for part time). Full time, part time and job share opportunities will be considered. About the role An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Communities Team, as a Communities Officer. In this important role,you will encourage and support others to take an active part in helping the councils develop safe, vibrant and healthy places to live. This is a key role in supporting and developing place-based community development and engagement programmes to help build communities which are safe, strong, cohesive and confident. Working in a locality area within the Districts you will be helping communities bring about social change and improve the quality of life in their local area. More specifically, this role will be responsible for supporting the delivery of Babergh and Mid Suffolk's approach to preventing and designing out crime and disorder within our local communities and will therefore require someone who: Can co-ordinate specific projects, tasks and community safety initiatives in support of the Western Suffolk Community Safety Partnership (WSCSP) priorities to reduce crime and disorder Can work in an integrated way alongside Communities Officers, to build and enhance effective and positive working relationships with key local partners within the Community Safety arena Can assist in leading and promoting safeguarding across the Council, sharing best practice, and ensuring council policy is enacted in practice What we're looking for in our Communities Officer: To be an effective Community Officer with a Community Safety specialism we would expect you to have experience and understanding of working in a multi-agency community safety environment. You will demonstrate: A good understanding of crime theory and crime and disorder legislation Proven ability to apply problem solving methods Good IT skills and the capacity to provide effective community safety advice and signposting Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and an ability to respond appropriately to the audience as you will be in contact with lead members (councillors), residents and senior officers Efficient time management and effective communication skills You will be at the forefront of some of our key areas of work, engaging with officers across departments of the Council as well as external stakeholders such as our partners in the voluntary and public sector. The Communities Officer position is subject to the satisfactory result of a DBS check and you will need to hold a full driving licence as well as having access to a vehicle.
