Our client based in the Fareham area is looking to recruit a Senior Mechanical Engineer for a 12 18 Month Contract. Position Summary Develop and implement structured engineering solutions to meet project and programme requirements across the whole development lifecycle in accordance with customer requirements, legislation, human factors and business needs. Be responsible for the control of own work and that of any allocated resources to meet agreed technical, quality, cost and schedule requirements. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities Develop innovative engineering solutions to meet the requirements of the project to agreed schedule, quality and cost requirements, working in accordance with company processes. This will involve Working with internal and external customers and suppliers and engineering colleagues in mechanical, systems and hardware disciplines, both on site and in the wider group. Managing formal requirements allocated to mechanical by system design, validate requirements per standards, demonstrate compliance by design description and verify their implementation by verification methods (test, inspect, analysis, etc.). Compiling work estimates and plans in support of project managers. Proactively track progress and update plans as developments progress Develop apprentices, undergraduate interns, graduate engineers and non-senior engineers to improve capability and capacity, working in accordance with company High Performance System. Leading the mechanical team by example, motivating and supporting colleagues as a mechanical subject matter expert. Actively contribute to departmental continuous improvement, and lead mechanical process improvements, including tools and ways of working to improve departmental efficiency within the confines of industry regulations. Field of Study/Area of Experience: Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering Degree 10 years of experience in mechanical design ideally within a highly regulated industry Specific Abilities Ability to lead a team of mechanical engineers, motivating and coordinating their effort to deliver compliant designs on time. Excellent 3D modelling and 2D draughting competence with GD&T expertise, ideally using AutoCAD Inventor, but wider awareness of other packages beneficial. Excellent understanding of configuration control and change management with working knowledge of configuration management systems (e.g. data vaults) for design development and production. Demonstrable experience with Finite Element Analysis, with fundamental understanding of the technology and its limitations / advantages. Experience developing models and validating them with real world data. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) FEA experience advantageous but not required. Excellent written communication and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex concepts to technical and non-technical colleagues not familiar with the subject matter. Able to clearly convey problem statements and technical solutions to senior management. Ability to compile information and prepare reports drawing technical conclusions to make data-driven decisions and achieve high quality outcomes. Ability to work independently and prioritize duties with minimal supervision, in order to meet deadlines. Experience working with large datasets (possibly in MathCAD, Minitab or python) advantageous.
