This role is crucial for exploring new projects in the clean technology sector and will be instrumental in driving the company into its next phase of growth. Day-to-day of the role: Conduct lab-based practical work and literature-based studies to support R&D programs. Manage projects to ensure R&D programmes are on track. Collaborate with project leaders to meet timelines and report issues or areas for improvement. Identify new projects or areas for future R&D programs. Required Skills & Qualifications: Degree or equivalent in chemistry with a minimum of 3-5 years' industry experience in the chemistry/materials field supporting research and new product development. Practical experience in organic chemistry, organic synthesis, coating development, or formulation. Experience in material science or advanced materials. Desire to work in a fast-paced, early-stage startup environment. Ability to plan and manage own work streams and work as part of a team. Strong attention to detail, curiosity, and a desire to learn. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Desirable Skills: Experience in bringing a new product to market, especially within the clean technology sector. We are currently looking for a Scientist to join a growing biotechnology company based in the Greater Edinburgh area. This laboratory-based Scientist position offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative multi-disciplinary team engaged in the discovery and characterization of novel targets. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Scientist to work with a dynamic team of drug discovery scientists, you will contribute to our drug discovery programmes. This role will be a 12 month contract (maternity cover) with the possibility of becoming permanent. There will be some weekend work. KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Your duties as the Scientist will see you lead and support scientific projects that contribute to the development of target screening assays. You will need to design and perform key experiments for target validation and drug testing. Reporting to the VP Immunology, you will be able to work both independently and as part of a team to design, perform, analyse, and report on high quality experiments. Depending on the requirement, individuals in this role may be involved in management and supervision of other junior scientists or technicians in the team. Key responsibilities as follows: 1. Recording all data produced in our electronic laboratory book system ROLE REQUIREMENTS: To be successful in your application to this exciting opportunity as the Scientist we are looking to identify the following on your profile and past history: 1. Relevant degree in a biological sciences focussed discipline - eg. molecular biology, immunology, cell biology, biotechnology etc. 2. Proven industry based laboratory experience, with a specific focus on stem cell culture, molecular biology techniques(DNA, RNA and protein extraction, DNA electrophoresis, PCR, RT-qPCR), molecular characterisation. 3. Proven working experience following SOPs, using eLIMS / e-notebooks and health and safety protocols. We are looking for a self starter who can demonstrate initiative.
