Job Title: Health and Safety Administrator Location: Filton Bristol Salary: £15.88 per hour (PAYE) Job Description: We are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Health and Safety Administrator to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and protocols within our operational laboratories and test facilities. This role supports a large and growing team, focusing on maintaining a safe environment for groundbreaking aerospace research and development. Key Responsibilities: Develop and Implement Safety Policies: Create and implement comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures tailored to the specific needs of our Test Centre and Laboratories. Training and Education: Conduct regular awareness sessions to educate staff on safety protocols, procedures, and best practices to mitigate risks, supporting a diverse team of engineers and technicians. Risk Assessment: Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential hazards in the workplace, including equipment, chemicals, and processes involved in structural materials testing for aerospace applications. Safety Inspections: Perform routine workplace inspections to ensure compliance with safety regulations and identify areas for improvement, supporting the efficient and safe operation of a large and growing team. Incident Investigation: Lead investigations into any accidents, incidents, or near misses, help identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences, ensuring the well-being of all team members. Safety Compliance: Stay up-to-date with relevant health and safety legislation and ensure that Test Centre and Laboratories remain compliant with all regulatory requirements in the aerospace sector. Emergency Preparedness: Develop and maintain emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures, first aid protocols, and coordination with emergency services, supporting the safety and security of our team in all situations. Safety Communication: Act as the primary point of contact for all health and safety inquiries, providing guidance and support to staff members as needed, fostering a culture of safety and accountability within the team. Report functionally to the Centre's Operations Managers (Labs & Test Centre) and Safety Champion for the AIRTeC facility. Work closely with the Health & Safety Department (HSE) onsite at Filton, which provides overall H&S management and approval for the team's activities. Qualifications and Skills: Relevant Qualification in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field (e.g., NEBOSH or higher). Proven experience in health and safety administration, preferably within a laboratory or testing environment. Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations and standards, with the ability to interpret and apply them effectively in an aerospace context. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively train and educate staff on safety procedures. Collaborative working will be a strengthliaising with other departments and health and safety focal points daily. Attention to detail and analytical skills, with the ability to conduct thorough risk assessments and investigations to ensure the safety of all team members. Certification in First Aid/CPR and experience with emergency response planning is desirable. Tasks & Job Duties: Develop digital solutions to connect various H&S processes, achieving administrative efficiency and consistent application, recording, and follow-up for end users. Conduct COSHH audits, quarantine items, ensure all paperwork is in place, and data sheets are up to date, ensuring compliance with REACh legislation. Audit and update the 11 Point Plan files. Monitor the performance of 3rd party auditors for lifting equipment and perform independent checks. Manage the Risk Assessment (RA) register for the Test Centre and Laboratories, review existing RAs, archive outdated RAs, and launch periodic updates. Support authoring where required for some team activities. Maintain a database for conformity of new work equipment and support new assessments, including PUWER assessments. Organize, run, and follow up on all workplace zone inspections with the Zone Owners in the facility. Report findings in the safety tool to the H&S champion and department managers. Support the deputy head of the test and building H&S champion with maintaining the training records for the department and identifying/following up on gaps with individuals. Enforce the Personal Protective Equipment and Workwear policy within the facility.
