Start Date: May Half Term 2024 Role Overview: As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting students with challenging behaviour in a specialised educational setting. Your primary focus will be to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment, ensuring that students with diverse behavioural needs receive the necessary assistance they need in order to thrive academically and emotionally. Key Responsibilities: Individualised Support: Work closely with students identified as having SEND, especially those with behavioural challenges. Implement personalised strategies and interventions to address specific learning and behavioural needs. Foster positive relationships with students, promoting their well-being and engagement. Behaviour Management: Assist in managing challenging behaviour within the classroom. Collaborate with teachers, counsellors, and other staff to develop and implement behaviour support plans. Use de-escalation techniques to prevent and manage disruptive incidents. Provide consistent reinforcement of positive behaviour through praise and encouragement. Classroom Assistance: Support the teacher in delivering lessons, adapting materials, and ensuring accessibility for all students. Facilitate small group or have one-on-one instructions as needed. Help maintain a safe and orderly classroom environment. Individual Education Plans (IEPs): Contribute to the development and review of students' IEPs. Monitor progress toward IEP goals and objectives. Collaborate with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to ensure effective implementation of IEPs. Inclusion and Differentiation: Promote an inclusive ethos within the school community. Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students. Encourage peer support and social interaction amongst students. Safeguarding: Be vigilant about safeguarding concerns and report any issues promptly. Follow school policies and procedures related to child protection. Qualifications and Skills: Experience: Previous experience working with students with SEND and/or challenging behaviour is desirable. Knowledge: Understanding of various SEND conditions, behaviour management strategies, and differentiation techniques. Personal Attributes: Patience, empathy, and resilience.
