Salary: £36, 395 plus overtime and on call work Site based in Bedford Shift Pattern: Monday - Thursday 8am - 5pm and Friday 8am - 1pm Position Title:Mechanical Fitter - Test services & site facility support Job Brief: The Mechanical Fitter will be responsible for the safe maintenance; repair or replacement in parts of plant, equipment and systems. To ensure so far is as reasonably practicable that plant & equipment remains in good operational condition. As part of a small and dedicated maintenance team you will be required to undertake all aspects of mechanical repairs. This may also include some fabrication and welding duties which will also be necessary in order to keep the plant operational and serviced in accordance with the sites maintenance schedules. Duties: Fault finding mechanical / electromechanical equipment & control systems. Undertake maintenance, inspection, and repair of plant in accordance with the agreed maintenance regime, including scheduling new tasks. Ensuring that machinery and equipment meets safety regulations. Intervening in the event of breakdowns, failures or malfunctions. Carry out regular weekly walk rounds of the site to identify any facility asset deterioration and report, repair as needed and be first line for any alterations or new equipment. Respond to user requests for repair, maintenance and infrastructure enhancements. Ensure spares are identified and managed in line with materials required. Set up equipment in an efficient manner, based on a sound technical understanding of the equipment and its functionality. Liaise with and manage suppliers and contractors to ensure the best possible service is delivered to the company. Diagnosis of mechanical issues with equipment/facility and facilitate its repair. Support the upgrade of mechanical equipment within the test facilities. Confined spaces and working at height. Nifty Lift, scaffold towers, fork lift truck user. Skills & Experience: In-depth knowledge of complex mechanical, facility & electromechanical equipment. City & Guilds or BTEC National qualification or equivalent in mechanical/electrical engineering. Good problem-solving skills with a methodical approach. Ability to work in a varied role, working effectively on multiple tasks in parallel. Self-motivated, conscientious with the ability to communicate effectively and work either independently or as part of a team. Well organised, good planning skills with an eye for detail. Able to learn quickly about new subjects and apply that learning to current tasks. Acutely aware of all H&S aspects and a strong understanding of isolation and lockout procedures. A strong Mechanical and Electrical skillset, ideally with an emphasis on Mechanical Engineering. Full UK driving licence. Advantageous: Familiarity with automotive test facilities such as MTS hydraulic systems, Environmental test chambers & engine and vehicle test facilities. Strong understanding of Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER). Enjoys working on multiple diverse projects at a variety of scales. Establishes strong working relationships. Promotes new and flexible ways of delivering services that are responsive to customer needs. Communicates clearly and effectively to a variety of audiences. You will be able to adapt to dynamic situations with the support of your team and management. A flexible and responsive attitude to go above and beyond when required. Ability to remain focused in high pressure situations. Computer literate with experience of Microsoft Office programs. Excellent communication skills both written and oral. Good Health & Safety knowledge and attitude - understanding of and experience of carrying out risk assessments. Strong organization and planning skills. To be accountable for own and others health and safety whilst at work, operating in line with SSOW (safe systems of work) and company procedures to enable a safe working environment. Take a proactive approach to continually improve housekeeping standards in engineering workshops and around the site. To work in support of a preventative maintenance strategy. Undertaking work of a predictive preventive and repair nature. Meet and exceed set KPIs for safety, quality, and productivity. Ensure contractors are appropriately supervised and comply with contractual commitments and site operating processes. Document and communicate as necessary comprehensive maintenance records.
