The position is based on a busy maintenance depot and all applicants would be expected to complete the following: Work from written instruction (VMI) Work from Mechanical Engineering drawings, working to specific measurements Replacing mechanical components to correspond to engineering drawings Routine fleet checks ensuring that the Fleet are operated safely Oil & Filter changes Driving the train around the depot Person Profile/Experience: Open to taking direction, learning new skills and possess a positive 'can-do' attitude. Able to work from and interpret written work instruction closely. Able to carry out physical aspects as well as the more intricate aspects of the role. This Depot focuses on the servicing and maintenance of in-service Rolling Stock fleets over a 24/7 dynamic operation and currently require a Maintenance Assistant to join the team. Position Summary: You will be working under your own initiative as a member of a wider team, to carry out routine maintenance, repair and basic fault-finding work on the DEMU Rolling Stock fleets. Job Profile: Routine rail vehicle maintenance as per laid down Vehicle Maintenance Instruction (VMI) Assist Technicians as required. Where trained and competent Tyre Turn on the Wheel Lathe in accordance with laid down specifications. Operation of powered plant, lifting and mechanical handling equipment. Where trained and competent move vehicles around the site. Operation of Battery Charging/Shore Supply equipment. Maintenance of plant. Drive road vehicles as required. Compliance with all laid down H&S legislation and depot procedures to ensure a safe and accident-free environment. Responsible for keeping the work area clean, tidy and to the highest standard always. Required to continually look at opportunities to adopt and develop continuous improvement techniques Additional Tasks May Include: Bogie exchange Caliper change Axle changes Carden shafts Power pack drop (Engine) Compressors Fuel tanks Excitations [PIMS] Permanent and Auto couplers TPCU Cab changes Full door changes Seats Floor renewal Toilet tank exchange (Alongside TBM) Fresh water tanks Mechanical Mods Sander Mods Following technical drawing, followed up with testing Various maintenance visits such as compressor oil changes, air dryer pressure valve, final drive oil sampling and changes and brake pad checks and changes Person Profile/Experience: Knowledge and experience of mechanical maintenance and servicing of heavy engines plant or machinery Qualification Requirements NVQ Level 2 or equivalent is a must.
