About the Role: We have an opportunity for a highly motivated Senior Engineer to join Ordnance Survey's technology department in developing next generation cloud-based systems, that drive our world leading geospatial and business applications. Working within a forward-thinking agile team looking at transforming the way the organisation manages and works with its data, this exciting role will challenge you to understand requirements and develop cutting edge solutions. As part of the role, you will be expected to: Be capable of developing and configuring production ready code and systems. Develop and use Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines to configure and deploy cloud resources. Carry out code inspections and peer reviews to provide assurance of code quality. Provide 3rd level support for production systems that you have developed. Continuously maintain and improve your level and currency of technical skills. Share knowledge and advocate best practice to help optimise team delivery. Actively participate in development team activities. What we're looking for: With a strong background in delivering at pace to a high standard, experience around Development, Deployment, Debugging, Testing (TDD, BDD), Scaling and Monitoring secure systems is expected. You will have daily contact with stakeholders and team members. We will encourage you to identify opportunities to advocate best practice to Associate Engineers and Technicians in your team. We're looking for someone that can demonstrate skills and experience in: Proven skills in software configuration, engineering of Python or Scala based solutions (use of OOP, TDD, SOLID). Experience working with Azure DevOps and Azure Cloud Services. Knowledge of modern engineering best practice and a keen interest in the latest technologies, patterns, and trends (e.g. CI, CD). Proven track record in iterative and incremental development. Track record in problem resolution & selection of technical solutions. Qualified to relevant development certification (or equivalent experience). Experience working with Databricks/Apache Spark. Experience working with infrastructure-as-code. About the role We have an opportunity for a highly motivated Data Engineer to join Ordnance Survey's Data Derivation team in developing our next generation geospatial data. Using big data technologies (primarily Databricks, an implementation of Apache Spark) you will develop, support, and maintain automated processes that enrich and transform Ordnance Survey's large-scale data. Working in a forward-thinking agile environment, this role will challenge you to develop scalable and reliable solutions to produce high-quality data that will form part of Ordnance Survey's data products. You will have a logical approach to analysing and interpreting requirements, enabling you to apply your knowledge and solve complex problems to effectively control the capture of geospatial data. Your team will look to you for technical coaching and mentoring, as you work together to develop and deliver processes that are logical, robust, efficient, performant, maintainable and supportable. Knowledge of data structures and experience querying databases. Software engineering - one or more language (such as Scala or Python) Track record in developing and delivering production ready components.
