The organisation will be making a significant investment in capacity, new support services and innovation to deliver the support and advice that members, the wider advice sector and their communities need Job Title: Research and Policy Analyst Location: Home Based with occasional travel to the London office Contract: Permanent, Full Time 35 hours or part time options considered (3 days 21 hours or 4 days 28 hours or job share) Salary: £30,961 - £32,528 per annum plus Regional Weighting (up to £4,454 in London) and £600 home working allowance Benefits: 20 days of annual leave, increasing by a day each year (to a maximum of 5 additional days) plus 3 days leave between Christmas and New Year, home working allowance, 6% pension contribution plan, two days volunteering days per year, season ticket and bicycle loan scheme About the organisation Advice UK is a small charity that makes a big impact. There are currently 700 Advice UK members and 1.7m people were offered free advice by members on a diverse range of issues including debt, housing, benefits and immigration problems AdviceUK are a UK wide organisation which means Advice UK stakeholder and advocacy work is across devolved nations as well as the UK. The Role To conduct research and analysis to build a strong evidence base to support AdviceUK's policy and campaigning goals; so that AdviceUK is an authoritative and effective advocate for the advice sector; to the benefit of people seeking advice and the communities served by our members. Responsibilities: Research and Analysis Research and provide core evidence for key stakeholder; policy submissions and reports, including government consultations and reviews. Conduct horizon scanning of external developments in the political and social welfare advice landscape across England, Wales and Scotland, reporting of issues of relevance to AdviceUK staff and members. Design and conduct quantitative and qualitative research projects to support AdviceUK's policy and campaigns work. Analyse and report on sector statistical releases and other key reports. Work collaboratively with the Systems and Technology Department to prioritise, design, gather and then maintain relevant data sets to support our work including member statistics and relevant data from AdvicePro (the case management system most of our members use). Assess and report on the impact of central and local government policies and proposals on the key policy issues of concern to AdviceUK members and on the social welfare sector in general. Policy Publications and Communication Interpret and clearly communicate complex findings to a wide range of audiences including members, policy makers, researchers and the public. Research, write and produce a wide range of policy publications including reports, blogs, briefings, presentations, website and social media content. Provide a range of desk-based research support for key projects, including literature reviews, briefing papers, published reports and press reports Support the identification and gathering of case studies from AdviceUK members and its beneficiaries to support policy and campaigning activity Data and Evidence Undertake research; analysis of data and reporting in order to support decision making; in particular the prioritisation of policy objectives given the diversity of our membership network. Support the delivery of reports as required to demonstrate if performance is achieving required KPIs Ensure the membership and stakeholder data you enter is accurate and timely. Work with colleagues to support data quality; accurate reporting and analysis. About You We'd love to hear from you if you feel you have the following skills and experiences; Experience and/or an understanding of the social welfare advice sector; the issues faced by advice providers and the communities they serve Experience of social or economic policy analysis to inform policy decision-making and proposals. Experience of commissioning, designing and delivering quantitative and qualitative research projects Proven experience of managing research and data analysis projects within agreed timescales and budgets Experience of working in partnership to deliver joint research projects Strong quantitative analytical skills, with ability to critique and summarise data and research findings to make recommendations. Do so by working close with AdviceUK colleagues to ensure our policy, advocacy and campaigns activity is robust, challenging and independent and to raise our profile and reputation. Responsibilities: Policy Development Collaborate with AdviceUK colleagues to develop relationships with AdviceUK members, partners, funders and sector stakeholders to capture key policy data to support policy and advocacy work. Research, write and produce a range of policy material, including reports, select committee responses, evidence statements, briefings and responses to Government consultations. Manage the monitoring of policy, regulation and political activity across the UK, including key debates, parliamentary questions, All Party Group and select committee activities to inform our policy and campaigns activity. Support the smooth running of AdviceUK's policy workstreams, supporting effective integration of policy work across England, Scotland and Wales. Write reports, briefings and papers to keep members and internal stakeholders updated on our policy and public affairs activity. Stakeholder Management And Public Affairs Lead on planning and delivery of our stakeholder and parliamentary contact programme and support this by writing letters and drafting briefings. Maintain and regularly review our stakeholder mapping, work with P&PA colleagues to ensure it reflects policy and public affairs objectives and sets our best routes to achieve desired outcomes Deliver effective public affairs monitoring and research, briefing and speech preparation, ensuring relevant developments and insights are shared with P&PA colleagues Support AdviceUK to build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders across governments and parliaments (including Ministers, MPs, civil servants); local and regional decision makers; non-governmental bodies and other relevant stakeholders. Do so by communicating our policy proposals; intelligence about AdviceUK members; the evidence we have of the issues raised by them and, where relevant, arranging for key stakeholders to visit services to gain a lived experience perspective.
