MORTGAGE ASSESSOR / UNDERWRITER - EPSOM - C £40K Our client, a major name within financial services, are currently recruiting for an experienced Mortgage Assessor /Underwriter to join their growing team. You must have industry experience, with a minimum of two year's in an underwriting, broking or claims role. You must have strong analytical and Excel skills, and have buy to let experience. Progress with CII examinations would be beneficial, however your personal and professional development will be supported. Responsibilities: Assess loan applications to ensure completeness of documentation to company standards and, in relation to introduced cases, liaise with Intermediary's/BDM's to procure the submission of omitted items as necessary Undertake appraisal of applications received and submit recommendations as to underwriting checks to be undertaken to either the Assistant Manager, Loans Underwriting or Head of Loans Underwriting ("Outside Guideline" or "Within Guideline" cases within delegated authority limits) as appropriate Acknowledge application to applicant and intermediary, (via phone and follow up email). Case ownership from Application through to Offer Drive application to offer times by tracking of mortgage pipeline within Service Level Agreement Issue and check the adequacy and authenticity of reference enquiries together with the raising of queries as necessary Conduct of checks with professional institutions, as required to comply with laid down procedures Issue instructions to Panel Valuers Input and on-going maintenance of all applications received on recording systems (manual or computerised) operational within the Loans Underwriting area, in accordance with laid down procedures Produce Loan Offers in compliance with Lending Policy and laid down procedures, for submission to and approval by the Assistant Manager, Loans Underwriting or the Head of Loans Underwriting, as appropriate. Despatch Mortgage Offers and Solicitors Instructions, if applicable, following approval Respond to customer, intermediary or Solicitor enquiries by telephone, email, or letter, as appropriate Conduct checks of Certificates of Title to ensure compliance with all loan offer conditions prior to submission to the Assistant Manager, Loans Underwriting or Head of Loans Underwriting as appropriate, for approval Arrange the preparation and timely despatch of loan proceeds in accordance with laid down procedures to facilitate loan completion Conduct all related administrative tasks relating to the Loans Underwriting process as detailed within the policy and procedures manual Produce completion details relating to each case at completion for onward transmission to the Mortgage Accounts area Approve Loan Offers presented by Mortgage Assessors within delegated authority limitations and submit recommendations for loan approval to authorised personnel with delegated powers beyond those applicable to the Assistant Manager, Loans Underwriting or the Head of Loans Underwriting, as appropriate Authorise the release of funds presented by Completions Officer within delegated authority limitations Review and recommend to the Assistant Manager or Head of Loans Underwriting improvements to underwriting processes and procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness without compromising control or prudential lending criteria Undertake establishment, maintenance and documentation of the Departmental Procedure Manual and any other relevant manuals as required Maintain business relationships with third parties as required Attend Internal or External meetings as required In addition to great career opportunities and a positive work culture, our client are offering a good salary in line with experience, some excellent benefits are on offer for the right candidate.

The successful candidate will be providing vital support to all areas of the business, from criteria, property queries, title issues, tracing customers, and Suspicious Activity Reports to fraud. You will be a point of referral on complex cases from around the business, as to whether the company can consider an application. To accurately analyse and understand key elements of all mortgage applications, whilst ensuring adherence to all policies or where the case is of good quality but outside policy recommend to our funders as an exception for all approval. Also, help to protect the Company from the risk of fraud by using anti-fraud systems such as CIFAS and SIRA to investigate and act upon information received in a timely manner. To assist in maintaining and updating the lending policy, by researching, and recommending policy changes Develop and maintain cooperative relationships between all internal stakeholders, including Underwriting and Sales teams, and investigate all referrals professionally. Work Fraud systems such as CIFAS, SIRA & Hunter to mitigate potential losses To investigate suspicious alerts identified by fraud prevention systems. Exercise personal lending discretion when assessing exceptions. Carrying out Broker reviews, liaising with sales before removal of a Broker To assist in preparing Management Reports, ensuring they are prepared in time for Exco or Credit Committee meetings Experience required for the position of Credit Underwriter Current or previous experience working within the mortgage industry with a strong mortgage underwriting background, preferably with at least 5 years of underwriting experience and having currently or previously held a mandate. Proven ability to exercise good commercial and professional judgment.
