Laboratory Technician - Life Science Instrumentation Newton Colmore is working with a leading manufacturer of life science instruments in Cambridge, and we are searching for an experienced laboratory technician to join their team. This is a key role for this company as they ramp up production of their technology, and you will be working closely in a tight knit team of technicians and engineers. A key aspect of this role is the hands-on support the laboratory technician will provide to the research and development teams. This will be mainly focused on the preparation and evaluation of the company's complex instrument that is at the intersection of science and engineering. This will also include the writing and reviewing of standard operating procedures for assembling their technology, as well for chemical reagents. To succeed in this role, we are searching for a scientist, ideally from a chemistry background who has experience with chemical reagents and complex laboratory instrumentation. Any additional experience with surface coatings would be highly advantageous. We are currently looking for a Scientist to join a growing biotechnology company based in the Greater Edinburgh area. This laboratory-based Scientist position offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative multi-disciplinary team engaged in the discovery and characterization of novel targets. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Scientist to work with a dynamic team of drug discovery scientists, you will contribute to our drug discovery programmes. This role will be a 12 month contract (maternity cover) with the possibility of becoming permanent. There will be some weekend work. KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Your duties as the Scientist will see you lead and support scientific projects that contribute to the development of target screening assays. You will need to design and perform key experiments for target validation and drug testing. Reporting to the VP Immunology, you will be able to work both independently and as part of a team to design, perform, analyse, and report on high quality experiments. Depending on the requirement, individuals in this role may be involved in management and supervision of other junior scientists or technicians in the team. Key responsibilities as follows: 1. Design, conduct and report on scientific projects both individually and as part of a team. 2. Collaboration/discussion to provide technical review of experimental designs, results and conclusions Prepare high quality data packages, clearly disseminating results to the relevant stakeholders. 3. To contribute to ideas and help shape future project direction. 4. Use previous knowledge and/or experience to identify problems and optimise processes. 5. Analyse and interpret experimental data; identify and solve experimental problems. 6. Report on milestone delivery and project status to the line manager.You will take on a level of Project leadershipresponsibilities. 7. Ensuring your work in the laboratory is in line with current H&S regulations 8. Recording all data produced in our electronic laboratory book system ROLE REQUIREMENTS: To be successful in your application to this exciting opportunity as the Scientist we are looking to identify the following on your profile and past history: 1. Relevant degree in a biological sciences focussed discipline - eg. molecular biology, immunology, cell biology, biotechnology etc. 2. Proven industry based laboratory experience, with a specific focus on stem cell culture, molecular biology techniques(DNA, RNA and protein extraction, DNA electrophoresis, PCR, RT-qPCR), molecular characterisation. 3. Proven working experience following SOPs, using eLIMS / e-notebooks and health and safety protocols. We are looking for a self starter who can demonstrate initiative.
