The Head Chef/Cook is responsible for producing high-quality home-made food and beverage offerings that contribute to the nutritional health and well-being of residents. They will manage food stock, adhere to budgetary constraints, and maintain rigorous standards of cleanliness and food safety. Additionally, the Head Chef/Cook will lead the kitchen team to ensure smooth operations. Key Responsibilities: Prepare, cook, and serve home-made meals using fresh ingredients in accordance with food buying and menu standards. Manage the ordering, storage, and inventory of food stock while adhering to budgetary constraints. Organize and efficiently manage the kitchen team, supervising their daily tasks and providing mentor for their learning and development. Ensure consistent standards of food presentation and service throughout the facility. Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of the kitchen and food preparation areas and promptly report any faults or breakdowns Qualifications and Skills (Desirable): Proven experience as a Chef/Cook, preferably in a healthcare or senior living environment. Strong leadership and team management skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Certification in food handling and safety regulations is preferred. Food Hygiene Certificate at a minimum of Level 2, Understanding of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points and S/NVQ 2 or equivalent in Catering and Hospitality or Professional Cookery is preferred Working Hours : 07:00 to 17:00

You'll be based at Gibside. What you'll be doing As a Cook, your focus will be in the kitchen, helping to prepare and present delicious food from scratch using fresh, seasonal ingredients. Your food will be served directly to visitors. Using the framework of our National Trust Cookbook', you'll prepare, measure and mix ingredients. You'll help with deliveries and with keeping the kitchen clean, to be compliant with health and safety legislation and to make sure that service runs smoothly. We'll give you an induction that fits the job, and training in allergens and food safety, plus any mentoring needed to help you in your role.
