Job Title: Afghan Speaking Resettlement & Migration Officer - London Borough Council Location: East London Contract Details: Industry: Resettlement & Migration Contract Type: Temporary Start Date: 2024-06-17 Contract Length: 3 months Working Pattern: Full Time Salary: - Hourly rate: £22.19 - £26 About Our Client: Our client is a dynamic and inclusive organisation dedicated to providing support and assistance to sanctuary seekers in Tower Hamlets. They offer wrap-around support to Afghan and Ukrainian refugees, as well as asylum seekers, ensuring a smooth transition and integration into the community. Benefits & Perks: Travel cards provided for work-related journeys Vibrant work environment Opportunities for professional development Responsibilities: Provide advice and support to residents to facilitate their settlement and integration into the community Ensure access to employment, education, and leisure activities Assess safeguarding needs and make referrals to relevant agencies when necessary Carry out duties in various environments within the community, including family homes, schools, job centres, and asylum hotels Engage with residents via phone calls, text messaging, and email, as well as conducting home visits Link residents to necessary support services such as ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages), school applications, benefit applications, GP registrations, and setting up bank accounts Monitor and evaluate integration progress and provide assistance as needed Uphold the values of inclusivity and diversity within all aspects of the job Essential (Knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience): Fluency in Afghan languages including Farsi, Dari, and Pashto essential Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work in a diverse and multicultural environment Knowledge of the challenges faced by refugees and asylum seekers Empathy and compassion towards vulnerable populations Good organisational and time management skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Desirable (Knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience): Experience working in a similar role or within a resettlement context Knowledge of the UK asylum process and related legislation Understanding of safeguarding procedures Familiarity with Tower Hamlets and its resources Technologies: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite Ability to adapt to new technologies and software If you are passionate about making a difference in the lives of sanctuary seekers and have the required language skills, apply now!
