The key duties of this Financial Controller will include: Overseeing the preparation of statutory accounts and financial reports in accordance with local authority regulations. Implementing robust financial controls and procedures to mitigate risk and enhance accountability. Upskilling and mentoring team members, conducting gap analysis on existing roles to ensure optimal performance and professional development. Drafting board papers and contributing to strategic discussions, aligning financial objectives with organizational goals. This is a highly unique role for a technical finance professional who possess strong leadership skills and a background in local government, who is now looking to take the next step in their career. Furthermore, the role will officially be based out of their offices in Newbury, but opportunities to work from home will be on offer for up to three days per week. The successful candidate will need: Professional qualification in accounting (e.g., ACCA, CIMA, ACA). Proven experience in a financial management role within a local authority. Strong understanding of local authority finance regulations and accounting standards. Track record of liaising with auditors and overseeing the production of statutory accounts. Exceptional analytical abilities and attention to detail. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Experience in practice would also be considered, especially if you have a background auditing local governmental organisation and are looking to make your first move into industry! Orka Financial is currently working with a business based in Newbury that is looking to hire a Financial Controller on a fixed term contract for a period of up to one year. Working closely with the Group Financial Controller, you will be responsible for management a team of four. You role will include month end reporting, variance analysis, balance sheet reviews, management of internal and external audits, monitoring cashflow, quarterly forecasting and other adhoc duties as required. In order to be considered for this role you will need to be available on no more than two week's notice, with strong reporting and analytical skills. Working knowledge of SAP and Hyperion would be a bonus and excel skills to an intermediate level (Pivot Tables and VLook Ups) are a minimum. You will also need to be ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified. Our client have on site parking, but are also close to good public transport links. This is a hybrid role with the expectation that you will be in the office for three days per week.
