Head of Finance £65-75k Public Sector Organisation Permanent Hybrid, 2 days in Wilmslow This Head of Finance position is an exciting opportunity to join a public sector organisation. This diverse role would be a vital position to effectively lead and develop the finance team and deliver both operational financial support to the organisation, provide technical expertise and support in delivering their long term strategy. Key Responsibilities Reporting into the Director of Finance and line manage 3 members of staff Planning for year-end including delivery of accurate and timely reporting Overseeing statutory reporting and delivering both quarterly and yearly accounts prep. Coordinating financial processes across the department and supplying opportunities for improvement across both systems and policies Oversee the annual budgeting process Preparing and updating Management Accounts, investigating variances, and identifying areas for improvement Working closely with internal stakeholders to provide support and up to date information Oversee the transactional finance function ensuring accuracy across AP/AR and payroll. Identify and implement opportunities to transform and improve the performance of the end to end Finance service to deliver service excellence to internal and external stakeholders. Person Specification A fully qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA/CIPFA) A strong and capable manager with previous management experience Experience of working in the public sector Understanding of working in a complex finance function Experience of leading the year-end and a competent Excel user This is a great opportunity to work with a fantastic, motivated and passionate team. Your new role Working for the Finance Manager and wider team, you will be supporting the management accounts team from assisting with budgets, forecasts and year-ends to investigating variances and looking to improve systems. For the month-end process, you will ensure the balance sheet reconciliations are completed along with; stock reconciliation, bank reconciliation, VAT returns, supporting the ledger processes and various management reporting. You will also liaise with regional managers on individual profit & loss reports highlighting any focus points and resolving queries. What you'll need to succeed You will already have gained a strong start to your accountancy career and have gained some exposure to the month-end routines, e.g. journals, accruals/prepayments etc. With strong IT skills, including Excel, you will offer a confident and motivated approach with a key eye for detail and to challenge the data and reporting where appropriate. It is anticipated you will be part-way through your professional qualification (CIMA or ACCA) with the ability to effectively communicate in order to collaborate with non-financial contacts and stakeholders, both internally and externally.
