Provide guidance and support to colleagues to ensure compliance with environmental legislation and company standards. Carry out environmental site inspections and work with internal stakeholders to ensure we uphold our certification for ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, including review of procedures and work instructions. Engaging with and developing effective relationships with internal stakeholders to ensure we meet our targets and commitments in relation to our environmental improvement programme. Monitoring internal environmental performance against targets, including but not limited to carbon reduction targets, efficient resource use and waste. Promote environmental sustainability across the organisation. What you'll need A relevant environmental education (diploma or a degree) or similar relevant job experience (minimum 5 years is desirable). To succeed in this role you will: Have experience of working in an environment role (essential) and ideally working in an operational environment. Understand and have great knowledge about Environment management systems and ISO 14001. Have strong interpersonal skills, able to build rapport and build effective and influential working relationships at all levels. Take initiative, manage and prioritise projects and your workload. Our client is looking for an Environmental/Sustainability Manager to support the implementation of the Environment/Sustainability strategies on major rail and construction infrastructure projects. This is an exciting opportunity for someone wishing to further progress their career in an Environmental/Sustainability Management Role. The purpose of the role is to support the implementation of the Environmental/Sustainability strategies on major rail and construction infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing and assuring compliance with client strategies and management plans to ensure that all objectives and targets are achieved. The successful candidate will also be responsible for the management of a small Environment and Sustainability team. There will also be an expectation to provide periodic performance reports to the Project Director and Head of Sustainability/Social Value to support client and programme wide deliverables. The role is Manchester based however, the successful candidate will be expected to travel to all sites within the confines of the project between Manchester and York. KEY ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS Support the estimating teams with the collation of estimates for Environmental and Sustainability activities. Establish strong relationships with the delivery teams to ensure environmental management is incorporated into construction plans. Establish strong and effective relationships with the statutory bodies such as the Environment Agency and the Canals & Rivers Trust to ensure that their works are understood and compliant. Establish strong relationships with local regulators via the integration team to ensure statutory notices and compliance are understood and agreed by local councils. KEY SKILLS ESSENTIAL Relevant and successful environmental management experience in a rail environment such as embedding NR/L2/ENV/015 Environment and Social Minimum Requirements' into design and construction projects. Relevant and successful experience of engaging with statutory bodies such as the Environment Agency. Good interpersonal and communication skills. Knowledge of environmental regulations. Experience of undertaking or arranging suitable inspections/audits for the project work in relation to environmental compliance. KEY SKILLS DESIRABLE Experience of providing input to the project works regarding construction/ implementation/constructability. Knowledge of the implementation of BREEAM and core assessment requirements. Experience of evaluating the compliance on site of delivery teams against environmental management legislation in a Rail and Construction Environment.
