Electrical Design: Provide electrical design authority for existing and new electrical projects, answering design questions and helping to resolve arising issues. Design and develop electrical systems in support of complex design to order projects. Create system schematics, circuit diagrams, cable assemblies, wiring lists and electrical bill of materials, including specifying wires, cables and connectors and electrical devices. Provide electrical and electronic subject matter expert advice to the rest of the engineering team. Complete conceptual electrical design using Solidworks Electrical, prototype build and design verification testing as required. Checking of electrical and electronic drawings, schematics, diagrams and design documentation for accuracy and correctness whilst requirements regarding cost, safety and time constraints are met. Responsible for electrical and electronic part selection taking into consideration obsolescence, availability and cost. Responsible for preparing and presenting designs reviews and if required, generating minutes from Design Reviews. Ensures design files and information are kept up to date and stored in accordance with departmental procedures. Highlights all electricalelectronic technical risks to the Engineering Director. Experience of using the company's preferred design tools: Solidworks Electrical, Microsoft Visio, standard 2D CAD packages. Follows departmental processes and ensures adherence with ISO9001. Where needed, highlight improvements in current practices and take active steps to develop improvements for review and release into the company's BMS system. Prepare and communicate specifications for the purchase of materials and equipment/tooling with purchasing and, where necessary, with suppliers. Creation of technical reports and documentation as required. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure designs and products meet codes of practice and recognised standards applicable to the company and/or the customer. Apply due diligence and make best efforts to comply with regulatory requirements and/or identify risks if compliance requirements cannot be met. NPI: Provide information in a timely manner to support pre-sales bid work including concept designs. Work with purchasing and suppliers to select parts, obtain quotes, and prepare specifications. Work collaboratively with the engineering teams and production to document, build and verify prototype parts and when needed train build operators. Recommend modifications following prototype test results. Make sure product can be made reliably and will perform consistently in the specified operating environments. Define critical dimensions for measurement and assessment by incoming inspection. Engineering Support: Be responsive to engineering support requests and ensure time estimates and accurate and work complete on time. Provide regular status regarding progress of issues. Where needed recommend, help rework or train production operatives to successfully complete rework of non-conforming material using suitable equipment and tools. Our client based in the Fareham area is looking to recruit a Senior Mechanical Engineer for a 12 18 Month Contract. Position Summary Develop and implement structured engineering solutions to meet project and programme requirements across the whole development lifecycle in accordance with customer requirements, legislation, human factors and business needs. Be responsible for the control of own work and that of any allocated resources to meet agreed technical, quality, cost and schedule requirements. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities Develop innovative engineering solutions to meet the requirements of the project to agreed schedule, quality and cost requirements, working in accordance with company processes. This will involve Working with internal and external customers and suppliers and engineering colleagues in mechanical, systems and hardware disciplines, both on site and in the wider group. Managing formal requirements allocated to mechanical by system design, validate requirements per standards, demonstrate compliance by design description and verify their implementation by verification methods (test, inspect, analysis, etc.). Compiling work estimates and plans in support of project managers. Proactively track progress and update plans as developments progress Develop apprentices, undergraduate interns, graduate engineers and non-senior engineers to improve capability and capacity, working in accordance with company High Performance System. Leading the mechanical team by example, motivating and supporting colleagues as a mechanical subject matter expert. Actively contribute to departmental continuous improvement, and lead mechanical process improvements, including tools and ways of working to improve departmental efficiency within the confines of industry regulations. Field of Study/Area of Experience: Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering Degree 10 years of experience in mechanical design ideally within a highly regulated industry Specific Abilities Ability to lead a team of mechanical engineers, motivating and coordinating their effort to deliver compliant designs on time. Excellent 3D modelling and 2D draughting competence with GD&T expertise, ideally using AutoCAD Inventor, but wider awareness of other packages beneficial. Excellent understanding of configuration control and change management with working knowledge of configuration management systems (e.g. data vaults) for design development and production. Demonstrable experience with Finite Element Analysis, with fundamental understanding of the technology and its limitations / advantages. Experience developing models and validating them with real world data. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) FEA experience advantageous but not required. Excellent written communication and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex concepts to technical and non-technical colleagues not familiar with the subject matter. Able to clearly convey problem statements and technical solutions to senior management. Ability to compile information and prepare reports drawing technical conclusions to make data-driven decisions and achieve high quality outcomes. Ability to work independently and prioritize duties with minimal supervision, in order to meet deadlines. Experience working with large datasets (possibly in MathCAD, Minitab or python) advantageous.
