Title: Senior Principal Electronics Engineer (Digital) Rate: £65 - £90 Per hour Length: 6 months Conditions: Outside IR35, Cambridge 3/4 days per week Hours: 37 per week (Can do all hours Mon-Thurs if preferred) Essential Experience is listed below however high Speed digital simulation experience is core along with being able to talk through discrete designs at the component level. This role is essential to the business as you will be helping solve issues with development of their new product line. Contracts will likely extend but will require you to be on site weekly to interact with hardware for testing and other members of the R&D team. Essential - Experience and Skills Solid electronics design experience in a development environment. High speed digital design High speed digital design interfaces: USB3, MIPI, PCI express, Gigabit ethernet, DDRX memory High Speed PCB layout and design constraints definition Experience designing for signal and power integrity. Experience with simulation tools (e.g. Hyperlynx, Sigrity, ADS, etc. for both signal and power integrity) Design for EMC/ESD protection. Key skills required for this Power Electronics Engineer Job: Experience in simulating power converters and subsystems, possessing extensive knowledge of simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, and others. Comprehensive understanding of design and control challenges in medium power and medium voltage systems. Hands-on involvement in the design, validation, and industrialisation of power electronic converter modules (power stacks) tailored for low and medium-voltage applications. Engagement in the development and testing of cutting-edge technology and algorithms for intelligent converters, leveraging both software and hardware embedded in converter modules. Expertise in specifying crucial power electronic components and conducting datasheet analysis, considering factors like lead-time, availability, price, and qualification. Conducting thorough loss analysis and thermal modeling for converter modules, along with the establishment of requirements for the cooling systems. Execution of laboratory testing on power converter modules, encompassing activities like switching tests and heat runs. Designing and maintaining back-to-back test rigs aimed at validating power converter technology under realistic operating conditions. Familiarity with a range of power electronic components, including IGBTs, MOSFETs, thyristors, diodes, capacitors, laminated busbars, passive components, gate drives, etc. Possession of thermal design experience involving loss calculations, simulations, and specifications for cooling units. The salary for this position of Power Electronics Engineer will be circa £80,000 - £100,000 per annum, depending on experience.
