Role Overview In the Commercial Indirect and Networks department the successful students will join a large team working and supporting on procurement activities including tendering and sourcing. You will have the opportunity to develop skills in a number of areas including service & construction delivery contracts, IT & OT, Professional Services and chemicals, contract/supply chain management, regulatory procurement and purchase to pay. You will engage with operational and senior stakeholders; support the alignment of business strategy and policy to deliver category plans. You will benefit from the shared knowledge within the Commercial team and expertise of working with colleagues across the wider commercial delivery team including Capital Delivery and Engineering, whilst also developing your own specialist skills and providing a valuable contribution to the team. We will help you gain an understanding of the projects being undertaken at United Utilities and the methods used by delivering them. Specific tasks may be assigned during this time. You will be accountable for delivering these with the support of commercial managers. During your 3-month intern summer placement you may also be given the opportunity to visit some of our sites. You'll see how we carefully produce clean safe drinking water and how we treat wastewater in order to release it safely back into the environment. You will also get the opportunity to mix with our current graduates who can share experiences, tips, and guidance with you for the next steps in your career. What we are looking for United Utilities are looking for undergraduate studying a Commercial or Supply Chain qualification who have completed as a minimum first year of a degree or equivalent. To apply you need to: Have researched and have knowledge of Commercial or Supply Chain activities. Be working towards a business degree or equivalent Have good computer skills particularly in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Excel. Be motivated and enthusiastic, and excellent team player, processing ambition and drive. Process good written and interpersonal skills and have the ability to communicate and influence across all levels. Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders. Be able to be comfortable working flexibly across a range of tasks and activities to deadlines as well as being able to prioritise your time. Potentially to work unsupervised from home. There is an opportunity to develop your hydraulic engineering skills whilst gaining real world experience working alongside technical specialists and operational engineers solving problems that could impact customers and the environment. As a Hydraulic Engineering Intern you will be able to develop your hydraulics knowledge in some of the following areas: wastewater treatment, networks, reservoirs, river flood risk studies and geomorphology. Projects may include treatment work schemes, combined sewer overflows (CSOs), the design of pipelines and open channel arrangements for wastewater, water and reservoir infrastructure. You will develop your experience and expertise in data gathering and the analysis required for hydraulic engineering design, as well as your knowledge of health and safety techniques and the regulatory environment - both of which are really important to us. We will help you gain an understanding of the projects being undertaken by United Utilities and the methods used to deliver them. Specific tasks may be assigned during this time.
