Senior Design Manager Job Type Permanent Location Devonport, Plymouth My client is looking for a Senior Design Manager to join their team on the major Devonport Dockyard refurbishment project. The successful candidate must pass Government SC Clearance. Responsibilities: Management of the multidisciplinary design elements of the buildings, ensuring designer technical performance and making appropriate technical responses. Provide Subject Matter Expert advice. Provide Technical design guidance and review of the overall design packages including safety functional requirements as defined in the Safety Case. Provide Technical design guidance and review integration of the designs with other design packages. Ensure that the design documentation covers the scope of operations required by the Project Manager and is produced to agreed standards, schedule and budget. Plan for effective project implementation, identifying key factors and effectively contributing to the project's technical planning process. Ensuring effective Quality Management Arrangements operate and deliver through compliance with Babcock's Business Management System and Technical Manual Ensure that the processes and activities being managed are appropriately documented with appropriate records maintained and configuration and quality controls applied. Ensure that staff and contractors are familiar with the hazards and risks associated with the work undertaken by the consultant team through effective management and communication of the Risk Assessment. Requirements: Design and construction of major new industrial buildings with multifunctionality workshops, storage, offices etc. Experience on high hazard facilities in the nuclear sector (desired). Techniche Global are supporting an engineering defence contractor to appoint a Principal Power Systems Engineer leading the Power Distribution and Standby Generation team (PDSG) in providing the Design and Technical Authority responsibilities to the business. Salary: up to 69k per annum Location: Plymouth- - hybrid (1-2 day per week or every 2 weeks) Duration: perm/ full-time Requirements: eligible for SC Clearance The primary purpose of the Principal PDSG Engineer within the Technical Authority is to provide professional and flexible technical accountability to the ongoing operations and maintenance of DRDL extant PDSG assets. The principal engineer is responsible for the provision of technical support and advice on maintaining the design intent of existing PDSG systems and equipment, including: Attendance at Authorisation Group meetings; Periodic reviews of maintenance regimes and activities; Specifying replacement equipment/components and supporting the production of configuration documentation for permanent modifications; Maintaining configuration of technical drawings and documentation; Reviewing concession applications; Responding to formal Technical Queries; Undertaking asset condition surveys; Undertaking obsolescence studies; Preparing asset health reports for critical assets; Supporting fault diagnosis and rectification; Identifying defects through Defect Condition Reports; Reviewing industry codes, standards and legislation. The secondary purpose of the role is the provision of the Design Consultancy function of the department where the activities are generally focused on the provision of new, or modification to; PDSG designs, equipment and facilities as well as injection of new capabilities and undertaking life extensions activities. This type of work entails the application of the Design & Safety Processes across the design lifecycle (Start-up, Concept, Scheme, Detail, and Implementation), undertaking a variety of defined activities and deliverables, and following the appropriate levels of technical governance. The deliverables and support required includes: Capturing requirements; Design development (drawings and documents; Specification writing; Producing commissioning documentation; Managing technical queries and design deviations; Providing support to implementation phase (technical advice during manufacturing, installation and commissioning witnessing Factory acceptance testing etc.) Desired Qualifications and Experience: Comprehensive understanding of electrical engineering principles for developing and maintaining PDSG systems; In-depth Experience of designing PDSG systems; Extensive knowledge of the general regulations, legislation and standards that are applicable to Facilities Electrical Engineering, i.e. the IET Wiring Regulations BS7671; Proficiency in understanding electrical engineering drawings; Understanding of nuclear primary and secondary systems. Knowledge of the design lifecycle and the associated Agility Design & Safety Processes; Experience of PDSG systems on the DRDL site; Understanding of the DRDL network design principles; EMC knowledge; HV earthing and bonding knowledge. Technical experience with a number of the following: Power Distribution System Protection; Frequency Conversion; HV Generation; HV Motors; Transmission and distribution power transformers; HV/LV switchgear; HV/LV Cabling; Personal competencies: Good organisational and time management skills; Good communication skills, both oral and written, including report writing; Attention to detail; Logical approach to problem solving and provision of advice; Flexible approach to allow for reactive nature of work; An ability to work with others and independently; Professional attitude and approach to work.
