Summary We are currently recruiting for an Assistant National Conservator to join our team on a 6 month FTC. Preventive Conservation is a key part of the Trust's work of looking after and presenting historic collections. This role provides essential central support for the delivery of preventive conservation at National Trust properties across the whole organisation. This is an exciting opportunity to join the national team of conservators supporting the preventive conservation work of the National Trust. What it's like to work here You'll work collaboratively as part of the National Conservators team, alongside regional colleagues you will share your expertise to maintain the high standard of collection care within the National Trust. Line managed by the National Conservator - Conservation Science, together you'll both form the core team in providing preventive conservation support to house staff and regional colleagues. Your colleagues will be based all over the UK so an ability to engage over video calls and emails is essential for this role. You'll have the opportunity to travel regularly to National Trust properties and occasionally overnight stays may be necessary. Your contractual location will be our head office in Swindon and there will be an expectation for you to attend the office. However, there is flexibility on where you are based at other times. You will be required to work at a National Trust location for 40-60% of your working week. This will be discussed in more detail at interview. What you'll be doing You'll be responsible for the day-to-day troubleshooting of environmental monitoring issues, responding to queries from property staff, to ensure accurate and reliable data capture. This will also involve keeping contact lists and system databases up to date and managing requests and incidents in our IT service portal. You'll work closely with the IT service desk ensuring that incidents regarding environmental monitoring technology are understood by the IT team and followed up in a timely manner. You'll be responsible for maintaining our environmental monitoring equipment - keeping a catalogue of their location and ensuring they're in good working order and calibrated. Hanwell EMS is the system you'll be involved with most so familiarity with this would be beneficial. You'll also be sharing your knowledge on preventive conservation with property staff in various formats from keeping Acorn pages updated, to modular online sessions, and in-person training days. You'll advise on IPM queries from properties and support Assistant National Conservator Remedial with spreadsheet queries for annual reporting. Demonstrable knowledge of Excel with the confidence to use graph data, updating databases, and using formulas The ability to learn quickly and prioritise tasks effectively.
