Senior Support Worker Location: Lewes, BN8 4EF Salary: £28,579 - £30,222 per annum (40 hours per week) (Depending on experience and shift/hours worked) Our client is a leading charity dedicated to providing exceptional education and care for children and young adults with complex neurodisabilities, physical disabilities and health needs. The Role As the Senior Support Worker you will assist the manager with the operational delivery of a residential and/or respite service. You will lead and direct others to provide person centred support to children and young adults with physical disabilities and complex health needs, in order to promote independence and personal fulfilment. Work alongside the manager to ensure that the home is run in line CQC and/or Ofsted requirements. In the context of CHF's Policies and Procedures, lead the team ensuring provision of personalised support to children and young adults. Ensure that policies and procedures are adhered to and that required records are kept so anaudit trail can be evidenced Ensure that all children and young adults have a comprehensive and detailed Person-Centred Plan (to include Health Plans), that is regularly reviewed and updated as necessary. Facilitate a safe, homely, welcoming environment for children and young adults and to immediately address anything that may be detrimental to this. To work alongside the manager and ensure that the health needs of children and young adults are monitored and to work alongside Chailey Heritage Clinical Services to ensure the best outcome for each individual. To work in close liaison with staff from other bungalows, and to be part of the rota for the 24-hour bag, and the emergency on-call rota to cover nights. Plan and implement regular staff supervisions, performance management and annual appraisals as delegated by the manager. To act as a role model and to provide coaching and mentoring to staff. Safeguarding - understanding all aspects of safeguarding, with an emphasis on what this means for children and young people with disabilities. Eating and drinking - to prepare and administer medication and gastrostomy feeds (once trained and assessed as competent) Health and Safety- To support (once trained and assessed) the health needs of the young people as necessary in regard to their specific requirements, such as epilepsy, suction, oxygen etc. Medicines - ensuring that the children and young people you work with receive the correct medicine at the right time. Manual handling - using a range of equipment with the children and young people, while keeping them and yourself safe. Intimate care - ensuring that the children and young people's hygiene needs are taken care of safely and with dignity Powered mobility - using powered wheelchairs and other equipment safely and encouraging the children and young people to learn to drive. You'll have the pleasure of attending a variety of days out and participate in fun activities with the children and young people. Skills and Qualifications NVQ level 3 or equivalent or willingness to undertake training to achieve the level 3 Diploma in Health and Social care Experience of working with children and/or adults with disabilities Can demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the operational requirements of a residential home A basic knowledge of care standards and the requirements of OFSTED or CQC Willing to work flexibly including evenings and weekends. Able to communicate to a high standard with a range of people using a variety of communication aids. The Role As an Education Assistant you will be required to work as part of a dynamic support team to undertake learning/support programmes to enable learners to access the curriculum under the instruction/guidance of teachers/therapists and the department manager and co-ordinator. The safety, mobility, hygiene and wellbeing of the learners within the manual handling guidelines. Promote standards of care according to current protocols. Support inclusion in the classroom, ensuring all learners feel involved with tasks and activities. Actively encourage learners to act as independently as possible, encouraging them to fulfil their individual potential and promoting their self-esteem. Provide feedback to learners in relation to their progress and achievements under guidance from the teacher. Act as a link worker to learners, supporting and advocating on their behalf, meeting the learners' needs in a way that recognises their opinions and wishes; participate in daily handovers. To assist with the development, planning and implementation of personal progress plans under the direction of the teacher; provide daily feedback To support and be aware of learners learning in the wider curriculum e.g. outings, swimming, riding etc. as directed by appropriate staff. Skills and Qualifications Good basic understanding of Maths, English, IT and technology Be able to work constructively as part of a team, understanding your role and responsibilities within the team. Good written and verbal communication skills To be able to undertake daily manual handling of children and young adults, including pushing wheelchairs, standing frames and use of other equipment. Positive attitude towards diversity in general and specifically towards the rights, independence, inclusion and choice for children and young adults with complex needs Ability to relate well to children, young people and adults.
