We're looking for an experienced Chemist to join a fantastic team near Accrington. This is a busy and varied role, and would suit someone with strong chemical analysis skills, along with experience of coolant management systems and environmental waste streams. You'll be responsible for the control of all chemicals, chemical residues and associated equipment and will be defining procedures, legal, local authority, regulatory and internal requirements (e.g. COSHH). Hours: Monday to Friday (37 hours per week, flexible and early finish Friday) Benefits: Excellent Salary: Depending upon experience - £28k for graduate level up to £36k for more experience Location: Fully office based due to the nature of the role. What will you be doing? 1. NDT Arrange safe disposal of any waste chemicals 2. Water Treatment Plant Perform daily checks on Water Treatment Plant to ensure consent to discharge is not being breeched for pH and flow 3. Coolants Daily checks on central coolant system for strength and adjustment to dosing system if required Maintain and control all equipment necessary to run the central coolant system 4. Waste disposal Ensure all hazardous waste is disposed of safely and in compliance with environmental legislation, ensuring accurate record keeping of waste transactions Arrange for the collection and emptying of the hazardous waste skip Ensure all waste contractors used have appropriate current environmental licenses and duty of care checks are carried out as required Arrange for the annual registration of site as a producer of hazardous waste Keep records of quantities of landfill waste and recycled materials such as paper/cardboard, wood etc. Arrange for the collection and disposal of specialised waste as per relevant legislation 5. Hazardous Materials Assessment of all hazardous materials in use on site and any new substances of processes using hazardous materials Ensure up to date material safety data sheets, technical data sheets and, if necessary, specifications are obtained and available on factory database Provide appropriate information, instruction and training on hazardous substances 6. REACH Act as the Group Representative on all issues in relation to REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation, and Restriction of Chemicals) Regulations Responding to any customers queries, surveys etc. on REACH 7. Legionella Control Liaise with Legionella control contractor on monthly basis and ensure Legionella risk assessment is carried out at appropriate frequency Weekly running of little used taps to minimise Legionella risk 8. General Health & Safety Carry out risk assessments as required, specifically, COHH risk assessments Ensure work is completed in line with EcoVadis methodology Carry out environment aspect assessment for ISO14001 Support of accident investigations as required What experience and qualifications will you have? Extensive experience of coolant management systems and environmental waste streams Strong knowledge of COSHH and REACH guidelines Strong knowledge of chemical analysis and reporting Knowledge of legal, local authority & regulatory health and safety requirements Excellent problem-solving skills and analytical abilities with a focus on continuous improvement Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks simultaneity.
