Randstad are recruiting for a Design Engineer for a client based in Central Bristol. They are a rapidly growing company that specialises in designing and manufacturing a variety of high pressure hydraulic components and systems for the Automotive and Aerospace industries. The Design Engineer will be responsible for modelling in CAD, carrying out analysis and producing manufacturing documentation for sub-assemblies, as well as supporting the same functions on other systems or projects when required. A successful candidate should be able to take a holistic approach to design, considering the components and their analysis from knowledge of first principles, and then making decisions based on inputs from FEA, CFD and DFM. Essential requirements Degree level education in Mechanical Engineering or closely related subject Understanding of the design process and engineering principles Understanding of metallurgy and material science Understanding of machining processes and their relevance in mechanical design Experience with CAD and producing technical drawings High levels of personal accountability and ownership, to effectively deliver on challenging and ambitious targets Strong presentation (both of technical solutions and data) and reporting skills Ability to focus on detail to fully understand issues and drive improvement Beneficial requirements Experience using FEA tools Experience using CFD tools Experience in hydraulics/servo valve and proportional valve design Understanding of Additive Manufacturing process Basic understanding of wider system technology including electronics, software and control, and its impact on mechanical design Experience working in Automotive, particularly with suspension and vehicle dynamics Key responsibilities Design of prototype sub-assemblies Management of manufacturing documentation, including CAD, drawings, bill of materials and AM build files Finding and communicating with suppliers for prototype manufacture Providing design support throughout manufacture, assembly and testing Where required provide the above capability to support other projects, such as valves, brake by wire and flight controls. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to deliver world leading products. This is a full time permanent position with a salary of £35,000-£45,000, flexible start and finish times and a 9 day working fortnight, so you would have every other Friday off as well. Mechanical Design Engineer - Packaging Machinery Position Overview Perform design work on customer projects Attend specification meetings with global customers, providing knowledgeable contribution regarding the mechanical design aspects of projects. Take responsibility for all the mechanical aspects of a project and provide technical guidance to internal and external customers as necessary. Communicate with other design engineers (mechanical and electrical) during the design of projects to ensure that these disciplines are fully coordinated. Advise on mechanical Health and Safety aspects of the product range. Keep abreast of developments in UK and European safety legislation and attend courses as necessary. Attend project meetings and update the Project Managers on engineering progress. Liaise with all departments to ensure projects are completed on time and to budget. Provide assistance to Assembly personnel during the build phase of a project and assist in commissioning. Mechanical Design Engineer - Packaging Machinery Position Requirements Experience in the design of electro-mechanical mechanisms and equipment. 3D modelling skills (preferably Solid Works) Sheet metal an advantage. Ability to design for manufacture and assembly. The ability to read and produce 2D production drawings applying GD&T as necessary Experience of the interactions and interfaces with electrical engineering. Knowledge of the machinery directive and UKCA/CE marking. Problem solving and trouble shooting ability Engineering Degree (Mechanical, Mechatronics, Integrated) Minimum HNC Minimum 3 - 5 years' experience in a Design Engineering role.
