Operations Manager role based in Lancaster. Senior management role working for a growing manufacturing company. Client Details Our client is a leading and growing manufacturing company in the industrial manufacturing sector. Description Reporting into the Managing Director, you will lead the production operations and production scheduling processes for existing and new product lines, overseeing the manufacture of products, ensuring production, performance, HSE and quality standards are consistently met. You will recommend improvements to production processes, methods, and support implementation of new production technology. You will focus on operational priorities, analyse performance, motivate people to deliver and drive operational excellence, delivering customer requirements, on-time, in-full. Part of the site senior management team. Lead the development and execution of the site production plan, in line with overall manufacturing strategy, anticipating and mitigating risks and leveraging opportunities, whilst meeting SQDCP objectives. Develop and manage production schedule and operations budgets for products to directly support and ensure that the product is delivered to agreed quality, cost, and delivery schedule. Ensure the production schedule is successfully executed via the production teams, developing and agreeing appropriate manpower budgets and schedules, key activities, and ensuring integration with other organisation processes. Drive operational excellence in the delivery of the production process, ensuring best in class standards are achieved and upheld against improvement / stretch targets Identify and communicate the actions needed to implement manufacturing / production strategy and business plans Manage a team of production managers and production planners ensuring plan achievement and the delivery of production KPIs Develop and deliver change management plans to drive production continuous improvement in process, systems, and working practices that drive efficiency, quality and safety outcomes aligned to the overall mission, values, and strategy Communicate the production strategy and business plan and its relationship to the company mission, vision and values. Engage and continually manage stakeholders addressing their needs, issues and concerns and reacting to these by leading and coordinating the development of stakeholder engagement plans to support the communication of business information and decisions Report on Manufacturing activities on a regular basis to the Senior Management team, ensuring accurate and timely reporting of the relevant Key Performance Indicators Define the team structure and skill set required for success; continuously develop the team in building robust and flexible team capability Identify the capacity and capabilities needed to meet the current and emerging production needs Input and hold responsibility for manufacturing budgets Prepare the annual Manufacturing budget and forecasts and Capital Expenditure proposals as well as ensuring compliance with legal standards. Manage the budget from identification to completion of projects Contribute to overall business strategy and annual budget process Profile Ideally you will be from solid industrial manufacturing background, or have experience at this level working in a heavy industrial, metals based or engineering sector. Proven production leadership and management skills with the ability to optimise team performance and development in the achievement of specific outcomes & results Demonstrable experience of leading a bespoke manufacturing function with a proven track record in strategic manufacturing leadership delivering effective manufacturing strategies, policies, processes and systems Leading in a lean manufacturing environment including demonstrable experience of lean manufacturing governance, tools & techniques implementation. Demonstrable experience of continuous improvement tools & techniques; ideally green belt qualified or equivalent experience Excellent communication, interpersonal and influencing skills Strong and confident negotiator with the ability to negotiate at all levels Excellent analytical and problem solving abilities Ability to add value, reduce costs and make business improvements Results orientated with ability to plan and deliver against programme deadlines Resilient, self-motivated and able to work well under pressure An appreciation of and an ability to positively resolve issues arising from different cultures Demonstrable experience working within the requirements of AS9100 or comparable ISO / TS / IATF certification framework. As Production Manager, you will have a key leadership role in the successful management of the business. You will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring the continued success of our production (manufacturing on machines) function of the business. The role will require you to line manage a workforce, ensuring their productivity, flexibility and cooperation. You will lead and motivate team members to promote lean principles at all times on our journey towards world class manufacturer of labels. Skills and Experience Essential: Recent Operational Management experience. Demonstrable experience in delivering Lean/ Modern Manufacturing techniques Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to convey a compelling vision Strong team player with the ability to develop and participate in all team environments in order to achieve goals, set strategy and achieve efficient problem resolution. Leadership: a demonstrable ability to lead people and get results through others by developing working relationships with all levels of the organization. Flexible, able to react quickly and manage / balance competing multiple priorities and achieve positive results Desirable: At least 5 years recent experience at Operations / Production Manager Level managing a Print/Packaging production operation of 25 staff - Knowledge of Label Printing /short-run/ Converting Packaging Production / flexographic print processes with adherence to quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture of product. Ability to plan and manage a departmental budget. Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to assess risk and determine the path forward to minimize business impact. Knowledge business operating systems, employment legislation, other relevant laws, regulations and guidelines to ensure compliance with same Highly articulate, literate and numerate Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite/ IT skills in order to prepare reports, financial projections, charts and graphs. Key responsibilities solely accountable to the role Production Management Being a highly visible line manager on the production floor who is seen to lead by example, managing and developing the entire production team. This will involve recruiting, managing, disciplining, training, motivating and developing the production team as well as taking full and efficient advantage of all personnel resources available, ensuring that a culture of world class excellence is set and upheld and the operating objectives and standards of performance are understood and owned by all team members. To deputise for the Operations Director when they are not on site. Technical Expertise Provide high calibre production management expertise into the business. An expertise in lean manufacturing and operational excellence processes and practises. Plant and Machinery Be accountable for the maintenance and condition of all machines and equipment via OEM service contracts and in house TPM systems. Ensure all daily, weekly and monthly checks, via the TPM schedules, are completed in full and on time and recorded by the whole production team. Key responsibilities shared with the Operations Director Manufacturing performance To lead the Company towards achieving world class manufacturing performance within a 5 years' time scale, targeting the sustained achievement of a RFT and OTIF at 98%, Zero Defects at Despatch and no customer complaints. Deliver the intended production performance of the company by putting in place suitable highly visible and clearly understood operational and financial metrics aligned to the business plan Establishing, measuring and achieving SLAs and other key operational metrics To solve day to day operational problems Control operational budgets and inventory Review financial statements and data to improve profitability. Continuous Improvement To plan and deliver a continuous stream of productivity improvements using appropriate lean manufacturing techniques, constantly initiating changes across the production team to achieve excellence in all areas. Always seeking the most efficient and effective utilisation of the machines and the factory itself. Achieve year on year cost reductions in both labour and material use per label manufactured. Quality Improvement To plan, lead and implement a continuous stream of quality improvements using appropriate lean manufacturing techniques that result in significantly reduced numbers of jobs that require working at any stage, so that the maximum number of jobs are processed right first time, every time, leading to zero defects at dispatch and no customer complaints. To assist the Quality Manager to ensure the establishment of effective quality assurance controls that are consistent with the company's culture and will facilitate the achievement of its objectives.
