Swalcliffe Park School provides specialist residential education and care for around 70 secondary aged boys (10-19 yrs) all of whom are on the Autism Spectrum. We are currently seeking to employ a highly motivated and professional Learning Support Assistant to join our established team. Duties include supporting Key Stage 3 and/or 4 or 5 students in a range of learning situations both in school and within the community. Working as a Learning Support Assistant you will uphold the vision, holistic ethos and policies of the school and work in compliance with the school's Quality of Life Framework. You will work collaboratively with colleagues to help ensure that the school maintains an "Outstanding" Ofsted judgement for the quality of education and care provided for all students. DUTIES Some of your duties as a Learning Support Assistant in a Key Stage Education Team (KS3 and/or 4 or 5) will include: Working effectively with groups and individual students within the classroom Supporting students with homework and assignments outside the classroom Supporting students with revision and access arrangements for exams Observing behaviour and learning styles of individual students to inform target setting Supporting them in a variety of learning activities to enhance their opportunities for independence and social inclusion, either onsite or in the community Supporting the implementation of specific student interventions devised by teachers, therapists or the Literacy Coordinator Fulfilling the role of key worker for nominated student, as well as participating in the duty and cover rota at breaks and lunchtimes Ensuring compliance with Health and Safety requirements of the Education Team ensuring risk assessments and safe methods of working are appropriately utilised Applying the policies, procedures and practice for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children are implemented effectively within SPS' Education Team, along with relevant Local Safeguarding Children Board policies and procedures Working in partnership with children and their families in partnership with other professionals to enable change to build resilience in families CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS As a Learning Support Assistant you will have the following skills, experience and attributes: Minimum of GCSE Level education, including Mathematics and English at Grade 4 (formerly C) or above or equivalent (essential) An interest and experience of working with children, young people and/or adults with Autism and associated language/communication difficulties (desirable) Experience of working within either an educational setting or youth and community work environment (essential) Being proficient IT skills in database, word processing, PowerPoint, and email. We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and dynamic Occupational Therapist / Occupational Therapy Practitioner to join our friendly innovative team of three Occupational Therapists, to progress their career in paediatrics OT. The Occupational Therapy team are integrated within the school and work closely with the onsite multi-disciplinary therapy team (Speech & Language Therapy and Clinical Psychology) including joint assessments as well as joint planning and delivery of therapy sessions. The role as an Occupational Therapist / Occupational Therapy Practitioner includes responsibility for a small caseload with the opportunity to carry out individual, small group and class-based interventions using evidence-based approaches within the school day and during residential hours. The role includes a strong support element for the school staff, residential staff and parents including liaisons, subject specific support, classroom and environmental modifications/advice as well as delivering workshops/training. As part of the Quality of Life research that Swalcliffe Park School is leading, the role also includes a focus on developing self-management needs within independence activities and functional life skills through delivering independence lessons as well as supporting our young people to access their community following a therapeutic framework. The applicant must be registered with HCPC and RCOT.
