Behavioural Support Staff

**Job Summary:

The Behavior Support Staff will work closely with students, teachers, and school staff to provide behavioral and emotional support, promoting a positive and inclusive school environment. The role involves implementing behavior intervention plans, supporting classroom management, and working one-on-one or in small groups with students who need additional behavioral support.

**Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with teachers, school counselors, and administration to implement behavior intervention strategies and support students' emotional and behavioral needs.
  • Assist in developing and implementing individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs) for students.
  • Monitor student behavior, document incidents, and maintain detailed records of student progress and interventions.
  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students displaying challenging behaviors to help them develop positive coping and self-regulation skills.
  • Support classroom management by assisting teachers with strategies to promote positive behavior.
  • Facilitate social skills groups and provide crisis intervention when necessary.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, guardians, and other stakeholders about student progress and behavioral strategies.
  • Attend and participate in team meetings, professional development sessions, and trainings related to behavioral support.
  • Promote a safe, respectful, and positive school culture through proactive behavior management and conflict resolution.
  • Uphold school policies, including confidentiality and ethical standards, in all interactions with students and staff.

**Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in psychology, education, social work, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children or adolescents, especially in a school or therapeutic setting.
  • Strong understanding of behavioral management techniques and positive behavior support strategies.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations and adapt to various behavioral challenges.
  • Patience, empathy, and a commitment to helping students achieve their full potential.
  • Certification in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) or willingness to obtain is preferred.

**Working Conditions:

  • Full-time/Part-time position during school hours; occasional after-school meetings may be required.
  • Work may involve some physical activity, including assisting in crisis situations where physical intervention may be necessary.
  • May involve working with students who have emotional and behavioural challenges.
