My client, a leading financial markets and commodities bank, is seeking a Payroll Officer to join their London-based team. This role offers an attractive salary range of £60,000 - £67,000. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic HR Operations and Finance department, responsible for delivering accurate and timely pay to employees and non-executive directors. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a strong background in payroll processing, ideally within the financial services or banking sector.

Responsibilities:

As a Payroll Officer, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of our client's payroll function. Your primary responsibility will be to accurately administer the monthly payroll cycle, ensuring correct payment of salaries, overtime, bonuses, deductions, and other adjustments. You will also ensure that all payroll practices comply with UK legislation, including HMRC regulations, National Insurance, pensions (Auto Enrolment), and other statutory payments such as SSP and SMP. In addition to these responsibilities, you will maintain and update payroll records in line with data protection regulations, submit required information to HMRC, respond to employee payroll queries, manage pension contributions, communicate with external bodies such as HMRC and pension providers, assist in payroll reconciliations and support internal and external audits.

  3. Maintain and update payroll records in line with data protection regulations
  4. Submit required information to HMRC
  5. Respond to employee payroll queries and resolve discrepancies
  6. Ensure the payroll system is up to date with any regulatory changes
  7. Manage pension contributions in accordance with the Auto Enrolment scheme
  8. Communicate with external bodies such as HMRC, pension providers, and auditors
  9. Assist in monthly and annual payroll reconciliations
  10. Assist with internal and external payroll audits

The Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate for this Payroll Officer position brings a wealth of experience and knowledge in payroll processing. You have a minimum of 3+ years of experience in this field, ideally within the financial services or banking sector. Your technical skills include proficiency in payroll software such as SdWorx, ADP, SAP, and you have an in-depth understanding of UK payroll legislation. You are known for your attention to detail and ability to handle large volumes of data accurately. Your strong verbal and written communication skills enable you to explain complex payroll details to employees and liaise effectively with external bodies. You are proactive in resolving payroll issues and well-organised, able to meet deadlines while managing multiple tasks. Above all, you maintain the highest level of confidentiality when handling sensitive payroll data.

  1. Payroll qualifications from the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP) or equivalent are highly desirable
  2. Minimum 3+ years of experience in payroll processing
  3. Proficiency in payroll software (e.g., SdWorx, ADP, SAP)
  4. In-depth understanding of UK payroll legislation
  5. Ability to handle large volumes of data accurately
  6. Strong verbal and written communication skills
  7. Proactive problem-solving abilities
  8. Well-organised with the ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple tasks
  9. Maintains the highest level of confidentiality when handling sensitive payroll data
