Java Developer

Local authorities are responsible for helping children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to get to and from school. Over the last few years a combination of rising costs increased demand and budget cuts have led to increased pressures with over 80% of local authorities exceeding their school transport budget.

We're working with a Bristol-based software company who are on a mission to deliver positive change. They have created a cloud-based transport planning tool that helps local authorities to save money whilst ensuring a high quality of service for students and reducing CO2 emissions. Having experienced exceptional growth and success across the UK market they are looking to expand overseas.

The skills we're looking for:

  • Extensive experience with Java.
  • Experience working with maps/GIS.
  • Ideally a degree in a numerate discipline.
  • Any experience of the following is helpful: JavaScript, PrimeFaces, C#.Net, WildFly, Azure, PostgreSQL, Junit, Playwright.
  • An aptitude to learn and someone who promotes self-improvement.
  • Great collaboration and communication skills.

What you'll be doing:

You'll be working on multiple codebases different stacks and at varying maturity levels. Every day will be different you could be supporting the QA team with fixing bugs and writing tests developing new functionality as well as researching and testing new algorithms and techniques. You could be developing a GeoJSON interface, implementing functionality to enforce who can or cannot share transport with who, and engineering massively scalable automated capability (Artificial Intelligence). They're planning to take their product and services overseas so you'll be someone who likes a challenge is keen to learn and likes to think about the bigger picture to make continuous improvements.
