Graduate Technical Design Engineer

Posted by SME Graduate Employment Ltd.

Are you looking for a hands-on role, working with high-end manufacturers; and with plenty of CAD design work? You'll also get to travel: around 5 or 6 visits to meet customers each month.

You'll be working closely with the project team, and seeing how they work. Travelling with senior colleagues and getting to see how the Cooling systems work in the customer manufacturing plants; including looking at things like wiring diagrams.

You'll take photos, then go back to the office and use CAD to model Cooling systems; producing a map showing where the flow goes, and what goes into it. And looking at things like piping and instrumentation diagrams.

Solutions are custom designed for different clients, so the designs you do will vary.

THE BUSINESS

The business is a specialist in providing cooling equipment to high-end manufacturers; from dog food suppliers, to household name car manufacturers. They control temperatures for the worlds most demanding industries. So, for example if water needs to be cooled down, the equipment will do it.

You don't need to know anything about the industry, or have done any of the specific things, as training is provided. It's a great opportunity to learn about something a bit different, and specialise in it.

It's not a high-pressured environment; you will be trusted to get on with your work.

The business is already well-established, but is continuing to grow, so there are great long-term career prospects.

The cooling team has big plans: they have already shown big growth over the last 2 years, and the plan is to reach 10Million turnover within the next 3 years.

CASE STUDY OF PREVIOUS GRADUATES

Last year a graduate joined the business as a Graduate Engineer. He has shown a lot of curiosity, and determination, and is doing very well. He is now delivering training for the whole company as part of his job, and is also the point of contact between different teams. Another graduate joined this year, and he is already taking on more responsibilities as part of his job.

WHAT YOU'LL GET

A starting salary of between £26,000-28,000. The plan is that you would be on around 40k in 3 years, with pay rises in between.

Benefits include a bonus depending on how the business does; and paid Christmas and summer parties.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

A Mechanical Engineering related degree (Chemical Engineers will also be considered if you have covered Fluid Flow).

WHERE YOU'LL BE BASED

The offices are in Tamworth, Staffordshire. Commutable from areas including north-east Birmingham, Burton upon Trent, Lichfield, and Coalville. You should ideally already be based within commuting distance, or be looking to relocate specifically to that area due to connections.
