We are working with a local authority based in Doncaster to find a Senior Planning Officer on an interim basis.

Job Type: Full-time
Location: Remote with occasional site visits in Doncaster
Day rate: £43 per hour Umbrella (within IR35)
Length of role: Initial 3 months.

We are seeking a Senior Planning Officer to join our Regeneration & Environment directorate. This role is ideal for a professional with a strong background in planning, policy development, and case management. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing their own caseload, providing specialist planning advice, and contributing to policy strategy and implementation.

Day to Day of the Role:

- Provide clear and effective advice on Development Management and Planning Policy to achieve borough, corporate, and service priorities.

- Manage a caseload of non-major and other planning applications, determining all planning applications and other matters in accordance with the Council's approved scheme of delegation.

- Develop and implement statutory and non-statutory policy and strategy, including preparation of evidence documents, data analysis, research, and review of development plans including Neighbourhood Plans.

- Prepare and advise on CIL/s106 matters including policy and implementation.

- Engage in pre-application discussions and negotiations with developers to identify requirements, policy interpretation, and ways to improve proposals.

- Act as the Council's expert witness in connection with planning/enforcement appeals and/or examinations in public.

- Support and advise on the planning enforcement process.

- Represent the Principal Planning Officers as required and carry out any other duties as may be reasonably expected of a Senior Planning Officer.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

- Planning qualification to degree level (or equivalent) and willingness to work towards full membership of the RTPI, with evidence of continuing professional development.

- Local Authority experience working on Policy Planning, relating to the production of policy documents for Local Plans.

- Experience of dealing with non-major planning applications and/or preparing and presenting evidence at appeals and/or Local Plan or other plan-making examinations.

- Ability to clearly write and present reports and evidence on complex planning matters.

- Excellent communication skills for liaising with various stakeholders.

- Ability to manage a develop management caseload effectively.
