Working Hours: Primarily 40 hours per week - two shifts: 05:30 to 14:00 and 13:30 to 22:00 (A 3rd shift will be implemented soon to allow for 24/7 operating hours)

Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Maintenance Engineer to join our manufacturing company located near Thetford. As a Maintenance Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the cleanliness, functionality, and reliability of the plant and equipment. Your primary duties will include maintaining a tidy workshop, managing tools and consumables, overseeing spares and supplier relationships, and conducting scheduled preventive maintenance tasks. Additionally, you will provide guidance and training to operators for routine maintenance tasks and actively contribute to improving maintenance plans and processes. Flexibility, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently are crucial for success in this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure cleanliness and tidiness of the workshop, tools, and equipment, while replenishing consumables as needed.
  • Manage spares and develop relationships with suppliers to ensure readily obtainable essential spares and secure storage of longer lead-time critical spares.
  • Perform and document daily, weekly, and monthly planned preventive maintenance (PPM) tasks according to schedules.
  • Provide guidance and training to operators to enhance their self-sufficiency in routine reactive maintenance tasks.
  • Review and continuously develop maintenance plans by determining the most effective strategies for each piece of equipment, utilizing gained knowledge.
  • Take responsibility for plant reliability, promptly identifying faults and carrying out necessary repairs during breakdowns.
  • Generate suggestions for improvements that reduce downtime and enhance overall equipment effectiveness.
  • Maintain flexibility to cover staff shortages, respond to callouts for breakdowns, and perform other reasonable duties required by the Site Manager.
  • Collaborate with the Site Manager to review, improve, and adapt maintenance schedules and routines based on plant and process experience.
  • Demonstrate willingness to work independently, as the sole engineer on-site at any given time.
  • Utilize good organizational skills to plan and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Maintain a flexible approach to work and be available for contact out of hours as needed.

Requirements:

  • Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in fault finding and repairs of low voltage electrical equipment.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a maintenance environment, with the ability to fault find and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment.
  • Experience with bulk material conveying systems and process mixers.
  • Possess sound judgment skills and a rational approach to problem-solving.
  • Strong team player with the ability to educate others on the importance of plant and equipment maintenance within a demanding production environment.
  • Ability to review and improve systems, processes, and maintenance plans in collaboration with the Site Manager.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under own initiative and independently manage tasks.
  • Excellent organizational skills to plan and prioritize maintenance activities effectively.
  • Flexible approach to work and availability for contact outside regular working hours.
