Salary: £27,000 - £31,000 DOE

Hours: Monday - Friday, 07:30 - 16:30

Location: Newdigate / Dorking Area

Our well-recognised Client is a company providing high quality garden maintenance, tree surgery and fencing services across Surrey and West Sussex. They provide professional services to loyal, Private Clients and are actively seeking to recruit an experienced team leader to join their expanding Team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced and driven individual to join the Business at an exciting stage of growth.

As Team Leader, your duties will be as follows:

Gardening Skills

Team Leaders should be proficient in the safe and correct use of the following machinery:

Mowers, Backpack Blowers, Strimmers, Hedge Trimmers.

A Team Leader should also be able to instruct staff members under their supervision in the safe and correct use of these tools.

Having at least a basic level of plant knowledge, covering common plants is preferable. Good knowledge is ideal.

Other useful knowledge/skills: Pruning of shrubs, Wisteria, Roses and Climbers. Identification of pests, Diseases and feeding issues. Weed Identification. Lawn Care.

A Team Leader should, upon inspection, be able to identify tasks to be carried out in a Clients garden. Some Clients will give a list of what they want, while others are down to the Team Leader to manage themselves.

Team Leading Skills

Team Leaders must be confident in supervising a staff member(s), motivating and encouraging them.

You must be able to build a rapport with your assistants and cultivate a good working relationship.

This should include establishing and respecting boundaries, self-awareness, being open to listening and answering questions. Offering both praise for work well done and constructive criticism when needed, along with help and advice on how to improve.

Identifying opportunities for training during jobs, teaching your assistants new skills and imparting knowledge.

Checking the work of staff under your supervision and, if needed, showing them how to correct it.

A Team Leader has responsibility for ensuring equipment is not left on site, that tools are looked after and not abused, their van is kept clean and tidy (within reason!)

Team Leaders are expected to liaise with office staff at the end of each day.

Time Management

Team Leaders are expected to manage their teams day as a whole, getting organised in the yard each morning and arriving at their first site in good time (we generally aim to arrive for 8am). Ensuring prompt arrivals and departures throughout the day to fit all jobs in (assuming multiple jobs).

You must be able to manage time within a job, prioritising tasks and ensuring all necessary work is done within the allocated time frame. You must be able to balance Clients needs and expectations with any additional tasks that need to be carried out within a visit.

Team Leaders are responsible for managing the teams breaks during the day (as per the N.O.P.), ensuring they are kept within the times expected.

Customer Service Skills

Team Leaders must be confident and professional in speaking with Clients, be able to build a good rapport with them and ensure they feel confident that you can care for their garden.

A Team Leader should be able to deal with difficult Clients, remaining polite and courteous even when they aren't.

You should be able to advising Clients where needed - including identifying and discussing potential additional work such as mulching, tree work etc.

Team Leaders must be able to speak with Clients to learn exactly what they like/expect in their garden and then follow through and deliver this.
