Service Engineer

Responsibilities:

Safety and Compliance:

Promote and maintain a strong safety culture within the factory.

Ensure all health and safety requirements in your work area are met, adhering to Safe Systems of Work.

Maintenance and Repair:

Perform maintenance and repair on all relevant machinery and equipment, including gas boilers, steam autoclaves, hydraulic lifts, compressed air systems, and water systems.

Conduct breakdown repairs and preventative maintenance, focusing on key equipment to ensure minimal downtime.

Responsible for both mechanical and electrical repairs.

Project Participation:

Support and contribute to engineering projects as assigned by the Engineering Department.

Documentation:

Complete all necessary engineering paperwork, such as work sheets and preventive maintenance (PPM) documentation, ensuring accurate breakdown analysis and historic record-keeping.

Team Collaboration:

Work effectively with the engineering team, ensuring clear and timely communication of relevant information.

Housekeeping and Hygiene:

Maintain high standards of housekeeping and hygiene, following the site's "clean as you go" policy.

Cross-Departmental Communication:

Build and maintain effective working relationships with production teams, ensuring regular communication and feedback.

Legislative Compliance:

Ensure adherence to relevant legislation and site procedures, including health and safety, hygiene, Legionella compliance (L8 code of practice), LOLER examinations, and pressure regulations.

Breakdown Response:

Respond swiftly and effectively to machinery breakdowns to minimise downtime and maintain production schedules.

Team Flexibility:

Maintain flexibility within the team to provide adequate coverage for production requirements.

Audit and Action List Completion:

Proactively address action items and audit points to ensure compliance and successful audits.

Commissioning and Support:

Play an active role in commissioning and supporting new equipment, ensuring it performs to specification and facilitating smooth handovers.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

Adherence to Safe Systems of Work and health and safety requirements.

Effective and timely maintenance and repair of plant machinery and equipment.

Successful completion of engineering projects within set timelines.

Accurate and timely completion of engineering paperwork.

Strong communication and collaboration within the team and with production.

Compliance with legislative and regulatory standards, including health and safety, hygiene, and equipment regulations.

Quick and efficient response to breakdowns and production needs.

Flexibility in supporting production requirements and ensuring team coverage.

Core Skills:

Time-served experience in a factory services or similar industrial environment.

Strong fault-finding and testing skills.

BOAS or equivalent boiler operations training; experience with steam boilers, water treatment, and water softening plants is desirable.

Experience with NDT preparation for pressure vessel testing.

Skills in steam supplies, compressed air systems, and ancillary equipment, including pipe fitting.

Knowledge of plumbing and Legionella control.

Experience with traction and hydraulic lifts is desirable.

Ability to use workshop machines.

Relevant electrical qualifications (e.g., NVQ2, 18th Edition).

Additional Information:

Holiday Entitlement: 32 days inclusive of all bank holidays (excluding Christmas Day).

Shift Pattern: Day shift - Monday to Thursday 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM, Friday 7:30 AM - 3:00 PM.
