Posted by Reed.

Teaching Assistants play a crucial role in supporting students and pupils to overcome barriers to learning. Here are some key responsibilities for learning mentors:

  1. Identify Learners: Collaborate with staff to identify learners who would benefit from mentoring.
  2. Action Plans: Discuss and decide how identified needs will be addressed.
  3. Self-Esteem and Confidence Building: Support learners in self-esteem and confidence-building activities.
  4. Assist Underperforming Learners: Work with students who are underperforming in their subjects, either individually outside the classroom or within lessons.
  5. Attendance Monitoring: Monitor attendance and punctuality.
  6. Parental Involvement: Visit parents at home to discuss issues and run group sessions and workshops for parents at school.
  7. Networking and Collaboration: Connect with other learning mentors, teachers, and relevant external agencies and professionals.
  8. Extra-Curricular Activities: Set up breakfast and after-school clubs, organize drop-in sessions, and run extracurricular activities during lunchtimes or as out-of-school activities.

To excel in this role, empathy, effective communication, and a commitment to promoting positive behavior and independence in learners are essential qualities.
