Operations Director

The Operations Director will manage all logistics and supply chain operations within a established online retailer, who are continue to aggressively grow year on year. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in strategic decision-making, operational efficiency, and team leadership.

Description

1. Strategic Planning: Develop and implement logistics strategies to optimise efficiency, reduce costs, and meet organisational goals. This includes analysing current processes, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing best practices. Leading the logistics strategy footprint for UK, Europe and North America.

2. Operations Management: Oversee all aspects of logistics operations, including transportation, inventory management, warehousing, and distribution. Ensure timely delivery of goods while minimising delays and disruptions.

3. International Supply Chain: Reviewing the existing strategy for all inbound product movement, ensuring smooth movement of goods from factories to the ports for export. This involves coordinating transportation, warehousing, and distribution activities to meet shipping schedules to ensure world class customer satisfaction.

4. Team Leadership: Provide leadership and guidance to the logistics team, including managers, supervisors, and front line staff. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

5. Vendor Management: Build and maintain relationships with transportation providers, suppliers, and other third-party vendors. Negotiate contracts, monitor performance, and address any issues or concerns.

6. Customer Service: Lead the strategy for our customer service proposition. Evolving how to engage with our customers across multiple channels such as phone, email, live chat, social media, and self-service options. Ensuring the strategy is able to evolve with the continued high growth demands of the business.

7. Inventory Control: Implement inventory control measures to optimise stock levels, minimise excess inventory, and prevent stockouts. Utilise inventory management systems and technology to track and monitor inventory movements.

8. Cost Management: Develop and manage logistics budgets, identifying opportunities to reduce costs and improve efficiency. Implement cost-saving initiatives such as route optimisation, inventory consolidation, and vendor negotiations.

9. Performance Metrics: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of logistics operations. Monitor performance against KPIs and implement corrective actions as needed to improve performance.

10. Continuous Improvement: Lead continuous improvement initiatives to streamline processes, enhance productivity, and drive operational excellence. Encourage innovation and the adoption of new technologies to improve logistics operations.

Profile

  • Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, business administration, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in logistics management, with a track record of success in optimising operations and achieving cost savings, exposure to European or North America regions would be advantageous.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire teams to achieve goals.
  • Experience of leading large-scale projects, including design & build of DC's, outsourcing of operations to third party providers and launching in-house transport function.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with external partners.
  • Strong understanding of logistics processes, including transportation, warehousing, inventory management, and distribution.
  • Proficiency in logistics software and systems, such as transportation management systems (TMS) and warehouse management systems (WMS).
