Mechanical Design and Automation Engineer

Mechanical Design and Automation Engineer required for a highly successful engineering business based in Gloucestershire. Due to unrivalled growth, this is an additional position, offered on a permanent, full-time role working Monday to Friday (day shifts), with occasional paid overtime, you will be involved in the mechanical design and maintenance of key automated projects. This role will include extensive travel across the UK and may include wider Europe and offers an excellent salary plus an attractive employee benefits package with access to company vehicle.

As a Mechanical Design and Automation Engineer your career to date will evidence at least 3-5 years of previous, relevant experience utilising our proven mechanical design and project delivery skills. Ideally educated to Degree Level Mechanical Engineering or similar, you will contribute to the in-house design and development of automated conveyor systems. Working closely with the project team to create innovative and efficient solutions based on site experience and applying site knowledge to aid them with project planning, plays a key part in this position.

You will assist in the successful delivery of automated conveyor system installation, service, repair and other engineering projects, working from conception to completion, and collaborating with project managers and teams to ensure timely and high-quality outcomes. Eventually, you will work as the site manager for key projects, responsible for managing the site team and communicating with the project managers key stakeholders and directors.

As a Mechanical Design and Automation Engineer, there is a need to undertake reactive breakdowns and planned maintenance work on existing conveyor systems, working as part of a wider team to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues to minimise downtime. When not working on client sites there is a requirement to provide support with various activities on site when required. This could include Fabrication, Assembly, Forklift operating, Loading Transport, Stock, Checking Tools and Equipment etc. Reviewing upcoming projects and assisting with timescale planning.

As a Mechanical Design and Automation Engineer, you will be proficient in computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook and Office Suite, and AUTO CAD. Experience in conveyor assembly/material handling is essential. The right candidate must be proficient with SOLIDWORKS design software and 3D modelling software. You will possess strong organisational and multitasking abilities, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
