2024 Graduate Scheme (Surveying - Compulsory Purchase)

What would I be doing?

Our excellent graduate programme and APC support aims to provide you with the best start and progression opportunities in your professional career as a Surveyor or Planner. To support our on-going growth, we are looking to recruit a Graduate in compulsory purchase team, within our Advisory division.

Supporting the team with the following:

  • Handle all elements of compulsory purchase and compensation acting for both affected parties and acquiring authorities, including:

o Making and advising on compensation claims and preparing property cost estimates;

o service of Blight Notices and negotiation of sale following such;

o receiving and responding to temporary and permanent land occupation notices and claim management thereafter;

o closing out of existing claims;

o advising clients in advance of Notices being served, responding to consultations and dealing with submissions to public inquiry (or similar);

o advising acquiring authorities on engagement with affected land owners and other interests;

o undertaking engagement with those parties;

o reviewing of notices to be served on land interests.

What are the requirements? We are more than happy to teach you all the technical skills you need, it is your personal attributes and commitment to the role that is key. Ideally, you will:

  • Be a student from any degree subject (you will need a surveying degree if you are applying for a building surveying role);
  • Have excellent people and communication skills - both verbal and written;
  • Have a positive, can-do attitude and be able to identify and solve problems;
  • Have good attention to detail ;
  • Adopt a consultative approach, able to identify and solve problems;
  • Have the ability to work on multiple projects and tasks at any one time, working in a way that is highly agile and responsive to rapidly changing client and site requirements;
  • Be committed to continuing your studies in order to become chartered with the RICS or RTPI ;
  • Have access to transport, or be willing to do so by the time you start work, as you will often be required to travel to out of town client sites;
  • Enjoy going out and about in all weathers, travelling across the region or further afield and working outside of the normal 9-5 when required.
