Technical Publications Manager

An innovative company specializing in advanced engineering is looking for a Technical Publications Manager to join their team in North Bristol. This permanent position offers a hybrid working model and presents a unique opportunity to lead technical content authoring services across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Build and maintain relationships across various business units to manage and deliver a comprehensive project portfolio.

Ensure projects have clear content plans, timelines, budgets, resources, and deliverables.

Deliver projects on schedule while maintaining high content quality standards and ensuring customer satisfaction.

Serve as the primary contact for new technical content requests and improvements.

Manage a team of technical authors, fostering a hybrid working environment.

Develop and maintain content writing processes and publish them on the company's Business

Management System.

Uphold high standards of content quality and drive team adherence to industry standards through certification.

Explore opportunities to enhance digital content delivery, including embedded help content, video, and augmented reality.

Identify skills gaps and create training and recruitment plans for the team.

Establish a modular content management system with robust version control, integrating it into existing product lifecycle management (PLM) systems.

Ensure compliance with business regulatory requirements related to information provision for compliance, export control, and health & safety.

Communicate effectively with stakeholders and manage priorities and challenges.

Oversee internal and external cost drivers, including licensing and third-party content suppliers.

Perform any other reasonable tasks as required by the organization.

Education/Qualifications:

A degree in engineering or a technical discipline where English is the native language, or

A qualification in English language or literature with a demonstrable technical portfolio.

Professional Skills/Abilities:

Strong experience with MadCap Flare or other desktop publishing software.

Previous experience as a technical author.

Excellent team leadership, performance monitoring, and coaching skills.

Familiarity with Adobe FrameMaker or similar.

Strong planning, budgeting, and resource management skills.

Project management experience is a plus.

Personal Qualities:

Highly self-motivated with a keen eye for detail.

Enthusiastic and adaptable approach to complex tasks.

Ability to embrace ambiguity, extract necessary information, and define clear objectives.

Capable of motivating and influencing others, including those without direct line management.

Quick learner of new technologies and processes.

Effective communicator, able to convey ideas both technically and in a manner suited to the audience.
