Night Duty Manager at KU Coop

Annual Salary - £28,058 + performance related elements

35 hours per week

34 days' annual leave

Thank you for your interest in the position of Night Duty Manager at Kent Union Trading Ltd (KUTL); KUTL is the commercial arm of Kent Union. Kent Union is a vibrant, student-led organisation with a bright future ahead of us. After a challenging few years, we are going from strength to strength with a renewed focus and energy to amplify the voice of our members and ensure they have a fantastic student experience. Our driving force is our new strategy, which sets out our priorities over the next two years. Students are the reason Kent Union exists.

We are there through their university journey. Our amazing staff and volunteers work towards improving their experience, whether it's helping them with their studies, practicalities of life or to have fun. We also employ 100's of students every year to help them finance their way through University and gain employability skills. The Coop store offers many students this opportunity to develop themselves and the post holder will be instrumental in hiring, supervising, guiding and developing student staff each year.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled retail manager, with a passion for trading, who will be responsible for effectively managing the operations of our main Coop Store (named Coop Union Plaza) on our Canterbury Campus.

The store is open 7 days a week, usually from 7am until midnight, providing everyday essentials and serving over 25,000 customers per week - primarily students, university staff, and also the local community. We run two 'Coop Franchise' stores on the campus - as franchise stores, we work in partnership with the Cooperative Group, using their brand, goods, systems and ways of working, but the store is owned by us, meaning all of our staff are employed by Kent Union Trading Ltd. The service and offer to the customer is the same as in any other Coop store, so our goods and services are well recognised, but all of our profits go back into Kent Union, supporting Kent students to have the best time and experience at university.

  • You will be responsible for the overnight replenishment and operations of the main store.
  • You will be responsible for driving great in-store availability, service and store standards, by ensuring that Coop's processes and brand guidelines are implemented at all times.
  • You will manage a small team comprised mainly of student staff, and will be responsible for ensuring the store is safe and secure for all customers and staff.

The post holder will work 4 nights per week 8pm - 6am
