I am seeking a highly experienced and motivated Senior Systems Engineer to serve as the System Design Authority for a major project. In this role, you will lead a team to deliver a complex system involving specialist sensors, electronics, and signal processing firmware and software for C4ISR customers. As a senior engineer, you will oversee system design and development, implementation, integration, and testing, ensuring customer acceptance and adherence to design requirements. You will also identify opportunities for system enhancements, support the development of improvement roadmaps, provide technical governance and mentoring, and assist the project manager in reporting to various stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the System Design Authority, addressing all technical issues and serving as the technical lead for the project.
- Oversee design activities at the equipment, system, and software levels, ensuring rigorous test procedures are implemented.
- Ensure technical requirements are met throughout all phases of design, integration, and customer acceptance.
- Develop technical documentation including test plans, specifications, and procedures to support project development and deliverables.
- Coordinate and supervise testing and qualification activities throughout the project lifecycle.
- Manage project technical risks and opportunities.
- Guide and oversee hardware, software, and firmware engineering teams to ensure system designs meet operational performance requirements.
- Review and approve technical documents.
- Prepare for and participate in (including chair) project design reviews with customers.
- Engage in acceptance events at factory and external sites.
- Contribute to the safety, reliability, and through-life support of products.
- Lead, guide, and mentor a multi-disciplinary engineering team.
- Stay abreast of scientific, engineering, and technological trends to enhance business offerings.
- Support business development by identifying opportunities and preparing technical proposals and solutions.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with suppliers and customers.
- Support research and development efforts within the company to improve engineering quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- Proven track record in delivering complex system design, implementation, testing, and integration in defence or similarly regulated domains.
- Experience with the full system lifecycle, including design, development, testing, integration, and acceptance.
- Ability to analyze and specify system acceptance requirements.
- Understanding of modern software design techniques in C++, Java, and C#.
- Knowledge of network technologies.
- Familiarity with complex electronics and firmware design principles.
- Strong technical knowledge of military-grade COTS communication and sensor systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with internal and external stakeholders, customers, and suppliers.
- Ability to manage, motivate, and develop engineering teams to meet targets and maintain quality standards.
- Capability to attain DV UK security clearance.
