Job Title: Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) - Special Educational Needs (SEN) Support

Location: Warwick

Start Date: September 2024

Contract Type: Full-time, term time only, September to July

Are you a dedicated and passionate Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) seeking a rewarding opportunity to make a positive impact on the education of a student with special educational needs? We are currently seeking an experienced HLTA to join the team at our partnered school in Warwick, working closely with a student who has an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP).

The school committed to providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all our students. As a HLTA, you will play a crucial role in facilitating the academic, social, and emotional development of our student with an EHCP, enabling them to reach their full potential in a mainstream secondary school setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborate with the classroom teacher and SEN department to develop and implement personalized learning plans tailored to the student's specific needs outlined in the EHCP.
  2. Provide one-on-one support to the student, delivering targeted interventions and differentiated instruction across various subjects.
  3. Assist in creating and adapting resources, materials, and activities to accommodate the student's learning requirements.
  4. Encourage independent learning and promote the student's participation in class activities, ensuring their inclusion within the mainstream classroom.
  5. Foster a positive and nurturing learning environment that promotes the student's self-esteem, social skills, and overall well-being.
  6. Monitor and track the student's progress, maintaining accurate records and providing regular feedback to the SEN team and relevant stakeholders.
  7. Collaborate with other school staff, such as educational psychologists, speech and language therapists, and occupational therapists, to implement additional strategies and support as required.
  8. Attend relevant meetings, including Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings and annual reviews, actively contributing to discussions regarding the student's progress and individual needs.
  9. Communicate effectively with parents/guardians, providing updates on the student's progress and offering guidance on how to support their child's learning at home.
  10. Adhere to the school's policies and procedures, ensuring the safety and well-being of the student at all times.

Requirements:

  • HLTA qualification or equivalent experience working in a similar role.
  • Proven experience supporting students with special educational needs, preferably in a mainstream secondary school setting.
  • Sound knowledge of different learning strategies and interventions for students with diverse needs.
  • Familiarity with EHCPs and the ability to implement strategies outlined in the plan effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and external professionals.
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience to meet the challenges and demands of working with students with SEN.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage time effectively.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
