Job Title: Estimator

Location: East London

Salary: Up to £70,000 DOE

Company Overview:

We are a main contractor based in East London, specializing in a wide range of projects across various sectors, including commercial (with a primary client being BT), education, local councils, healthcare (NHS), and leisure. Our projects include fit-out, refurbishment, and new build works. We are seeking an experienced Estimator to join our dynamic team and contribute to our ongoing success.

Position Overview:

The Estimator will be responsible for producing priced tenders that are accurate, clearly detailed, competitive, and returned within deadlines. The successful candidate will work closely with the pre-construction team to ensure all tender requirements are met.

Responsibilities:

Tenders:

Prepare and submit detailed, accurate, and competitive tenders for various projects.

Analyze drawings, specifications, and other documentation to prepare comprehensive cost estimates.

Obtain quotes from suppliers and subcontractors and evaluate their costings.

Ensure tenders are submitted within the required deadlines.

Budgets/Cost Plans:

Develop and maintain budget and cost plans.

Monitor and control project budgets to ensure they align with financial targets.

Provide cost advice and support to project managers and other stakeholders.

Tender Reviews:

Conduct thorough tender reviews to ensure all client requirements are met.

Identify and assess potential risks and opportunities associated with the tender.

Prepare and present tender reviews to senior management and clients.

Handovers:

Participate in project handovers to ensure a smooth transition from pre-construction to the construction phase.

Provide detailed handover documentation and brief project teams on tender details.

Pre-tender Meetings:

Attend pre-tender meetings with clients and other stakeholders to discuss project requirements.

Clarify any ambiguities or discrepancies in the tender documentation.

Post-tender Meetings:

Attend post-tender meetings to discuss submitted tenders with clients and stakeholders.

Negotiate and clarify any tender-related issues to secure project awards.

Checks:

Perform thorough checks on tender documents to ensure accuracy and compliance with client requirements.

Verify all calculations, quantities, and costings.

General:

Maintain accurate records of all tenders, cost plans, and associated documentation.

Stay updated on industry trends, market conditions, and pricing strategies.

Contribute to the continuous improvement of tendering processes and practices.

Requirements:

Proven experience as an Estimator in the construction industry, preferably with a main contractor.

Strong background in fit-out, refurbishment, and build projects.

Excellent analytical and numerical skills with a keen attention to detail.

Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.

Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and other technical documents.

Strong communication and negotiation skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Ability to manage multiple tenders simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.

Knowledge of industry standards and regulations.
