Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant (Experienced)

Location: Luton, Bedfordshire

Sector: Education and Training

Day Rate: £85 - £90

Contract: Full-time, Term-time only

Start Date: Immediate / ASAP

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a well-established school in Luton. The successful candidate to join the education and training sector will play a key role in supporting children with SEMH needs, helping them to overcome barriers to learning and reach their full potential in a nurturing and inclusive environment.

Key Responsibilities of an SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide tailored support to pupils with SEMH needs, both in and out of the classroom.
  • Implement personalised learning plans and behaviour strategies.
  • Support the emotional and social development of students, promoting positive behaviour.
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to provide holistic support.
  • Monitor student progress, offering feedback and adapting support as needed.
  • Help to create a safe and supportive learning environment.

Requirements of a Luton SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Proven experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs.
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting challenging behaviour.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with pupils, staff, and families.
  • Experience working within an educational setting, ideally in a primary or secondary school.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and child protection protocols.
  • Relevant qualifications such as a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent experience.

Desirable:

  • Experience with de-escalation techniques and behaviour management strategies.
  • Knowledge of other special educational needs such as Autism, ADHD, or Speech and Language difficulties.
  • First Aid training or Team Teach qualification (desirable but not essential).
  • Local Commute to Luton
