Head of Development - eCommerce Shopify Agency

Role:

As the Experienced Shopify Developer Lead, you will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing development quality across the business. Staying ahead of the latest trends in Shopify, e-commerce, and web development, you will ensure that the business remains at the forefront of the industry. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will oversee the development team's progress, conduct regular 1-1 reviews, and promote continuous improvement. In addition, you will be instrumental in training team members, recruiting new developers, and engineering innovative solutions to complex client challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Quality Oversight: Ensure that the highest standards of development quality are consistently met across all projects, keeping the company at the cutting edge of Shopify and e-commerce trends;
  • Team Leadership: Lead and mentor the development team, conducting regular 1-1 reviews, providing constructive feedback, and fostering professional growth;
  • Collaboration with CEO: Work closely with the CEO to provide updates on the development team's performance set strategic goals, and align with the company's growth plans.
  • Training & Development: Provide training and upskilling opportunities for existing team members, ensuring their skills remain competitive in the rapidly evolving Shopify landscape.
  • Recruitment: Manage the recruitment process for new developers, including conducting interviews, reviewing technical assessments, and ensuring new hires align with the company's culture and standards.
  • Solution Engineering: Design and engineer innovative solutions for complex client challenges, ensuring customization and high performance.
  • Hands-on Development: Participate in development work on high-priority projects or when addressing complex technical challenges, contributing directly to the success of key initiatives.
  • Service Improvement: Lead ongoing improvement of development services within the company, continuously refining processes and tools to enhance efficiency and quality.

Requirements:

  • Agency Experience: Proven experience in a similar role within a Shopify-focused agency, with a deep understanding of agency workflows and client management.
  • Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop a team of developers, creating a positive and productive work environment.
  • Technical Expertise: Extensive experience as a Shopify developer, with a strong portfolio of successful projects and a deep understanding of Shopify's capabilities.
  • Passion for Coding: A genuine love for coding and a commitment to staying updated on the latest development trends and best practices.
  • People Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and to build strong relationships within the team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with headless commerce setups.
  • Familiarity with modern frontend frameworks such as React or Vue.js.
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices in the context of Shopify.
  • Experience with Shopify Plus.

Salary Banding: £60,000 - £70,000 per annum

Location: United Kingdom/ Fully Remote
