**Job Overview:
Newcastle City Council is seeking a skilled and dedicated Social Worker to join the Children in Care and Care Leavers Team. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a positive and lasting difference in the lives of looked-after children and young people transitioning out of care. The successful candidate will carry out statutory duties under the Children Act 1989 and other relevant legislation, working within a multi-disciplinary team to support children and young people in care and those preparing for independence.
**Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a caseload of children and young people who are looked after or care leavers, ensuring their safety, well-being, and development.
- Develop and implement care and pathway plans that reflect the young person's views and are reviewed regularly in line with statutory requirements.
- Promote the stability and permanence of placements, working in partnership with foster carers, residential staff, health and education professionals, and independent reviewing officers.
- Ensure effective transition planning for care leavers, supporting them with accommodation, education, employment, financial independence, and emotional well-being.
- Undertake direct work with children and young people to build trusting relationships and support their personal development.
- Prepare comprehensive assessments, reports, and court statements as required, attending court when necessary.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records in line with the Council's policies and procedures.
- Participate in supervision, team meetings, and training to maintain continuous professional development.
**Essential Requirements:
- Degree in Social Work or equivalent qualification.
- Current registration with Social Work England.
- Minimum of 2 years' post-qualification experience working with looked-after children and/or care leavers.
- Strong understanding of relevant legislation, including the Children Act 1989, Leaving Care Act 2000, and Children and Social Work Act 2017.
- Excellent assessment, analytical, and report-writing skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a supportive team culture.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
