Housing Register Officer at Harrow Council

Pertemps is excited to offer an opportunity for a self-driven and motivated individual to join our expanding team as a Housing Register Officer. In this role, you'll play a crucial part in managing housing applications and ensuring compliance with Council policies and housing legislation.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Application Assessment: Register and assess housing applicants on the Housing Registrations database, making eligibility decisions for inclusion or maintenance on the Housing List.

2. Verification: Utilize relevant identity/credit software to verify housing register applications and assess resident circumstances.

3. Medical and Support Needs: Identify medical and support requirements, referring applicants to the Council's Housing Medical Adviser and other specialist teams.

4. Financial Assessments: Conduct comprehensive financial assessments and provide debt management advice to applicants who don't meet income thresholds.

5. Priority Decisions: Notify applicants of changes impacting their priority on the housing register due to altered circumstances.

6. Support Services: Identify support needs for new applicants and refer them to relevant services.

7. Assisted Bidding: Assist vulnerable applicants with bidding and conduct sensitive in-depth interviews regarding housing, maintaining confidentiality.

8. Caseload Management: Maintain and update applicant database details, respond to electronic inquiries, and contribute to information management.

We're seeking a Housing Register Officer with the following qualifications:

1. Experience: Worked in housing register management or housing allocation settings.

2. Legal Knowledge: Familiar with the 1996 Housing Act Part VI and its application to accommodation and Housing Allocation Policy.

3. IT Proficiency: Knowledge of housing register systems and Choice Based Lettings technology, actively contributing to system development.

4. Communication Skills: Able to provide complex advice verbally and in writing, making accurate decisions aligned with the Housing Allocation Policy.

5. Awareness: Understands various housing options available to residents.

6. Problem Solving: Capable of handling complex and contentious cases, providing tailored recommendations to the line manager.
