I have an exciting opportunity for an Estimator to join my cleint in the Central region at Birmingham.
The Role:
As part of the Estimating team, you'll develop precise cost estimates for Labour, Materials, Subcontractors, and Preliminaries on competitive tenders. Work types may include Geotech, Drainage, Structures, Buildings, and Permanent Way.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as a primary representative of the estimating team within the company and in client interactions.
- Prepare detailed, first-principles estimates.
- Conduct benchmarking exercises to inform commercial positions on tenders.
- Collaborate with operational, engineering, and commercial staff to produce accurate estimates.
- Manage day-to-day tender processes.
- Engage subcontractors at the tender stage, including producing enquiries and evaluating supply chain responses.
- Assess risks and opportunities on tenders.
- Present tender positions to senior management for approval.
- Work closely with clients to understand their objectives and maintain a collaborative relationship.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Typically HNC qualified in construction or with 5+ years of relevant experience.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong numerical skills and a solid sense of commercial/financial responsibility.
- Willing to attend site visits and meetings, including during unsocial hours.
- Proficient in IT.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly organised, with excellent time management and a results-driven approach.
- A team player with a willingness to learn and take initiative in personal development.
