Tutor - SEN College, Basingstoke

Academics are seeking a Tutor to join an Independent Special College in Basingstoke in September.

The College was established to support the social, emotional, and mental health complexities of young people with an EHCP (Education, Health, and Care Plan) and enable them to access a broad, balanced, and engaging curriculum through a nurturing, safe and inclusive environment.

Working as a Tutor, you will be part of a close, supportive team working to teach and develop young people who have struggled to access education due to the mental ill health, anxiety and difficulties attending school through empathy, nurture, and patience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsibility for pastoral care of key students
  • Develop and deliver personalised learning plans that address the specific needs and abilities of students.
  • Plan and deliver lessons based on schemes of work leading to accreditation.
  • Provide emotional and academic support, mentoring students to build confidence, resilience, and independence in their learning journey working in small groups and 1-1.
  • Conduct regular assessments to monitor student progress, maintaining detailed records, marking work, and adjusting teaching methods, as necessary.
  • Work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including other tutors, teachers, support workers, therapists, and external agencies, to ensure a cohesive approach to each student's education.
  • Engage with parents and guardians, providing regular updates on student progress and involving them in the educational process.
  • Stay current with best practices and developments in SEND and SEMH education through continuous professional development and training.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all students by adhering to college safeguarding policies and procedures.

Working hours are 8.30am - 4.30pm, term-time. Offering competitive salaries.
