Role: Formulation Chemist - Inorganic Fertilisers
Location: Kings Lynn, Norfolk

Our client is the market leader in liquid fertilisers in the UK, manufacturing and exporting a unique range of plant nutrients and crop health promoters to over 60 countries worldwide.

The Role: Ideally an experienced formulator of inorganic fertilisers (dry, solution, and suspension grades) but we would love to hear from formulators in other sectors; paints, coatings, cosmetics, personal care, homecare, etc.

As part of their succession planning strategy, you will join a small team of established R&D chemists, with the most senior member retiring at the end of 2024.

Key Duties: Formulate new fertilisers in response to briefs from internal and external stakeholders (NPD-New Product Development)
Optimise existing formulas (EPD-Existing Product Development)
Research organic ingredients to adjust the portfolio reflecting changing market priorities, including organic fertilisers, bio stimulants, and bio pesticides
Source and evaluate new raw materials (e.g., wetters, dispersants, antifoams, suspension agents, and other adjuvants)
Assess and approve existing raw materials from alternative suppliers
Conduct stability and accelerated ageing testing to ensure shelf-life and transport stability commitments
Author MSDS (training provided if required)
Export relevant information from MSDSs to CLP (Classification of Labelling and Packaging) guidance documents, generating legal artwork for product export labelling
Approve artwork (CLP and nutrient analysis details)
Ensure correct use, calibration, and maintenance of R&D instruments
Assist the production team with technical matters (e.g., batch recovery)
Cover for QC bench during leave or sickness
Develop test methods and procedures for new products
Host visits from suppliers and attend trade fairs and exhibitions

Candidate Profile: Proven track record of developing products from concept to launch
Experience in an ISO accredited environment (or equivalent management system such as GLP/GMP)
Familiarity with the EU Fertilising Product Regulations 2019 (FPR) is desirable
Experience in the agricultural sector is ideal, but candidates from associated sectors with transferrable skills are welcome
Proficient in Microsoft Office software (currently using MS Office 365 & MS Navision Dynamics)
Experience using LIMS or similar databases
Experience in MSDS authorship is desirable
Methodical, with strong planning, coordination, and organisational skills
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Regular liaison with other team members is required
Clean UK driving licence as inter-site travel may be necessary
